When I hit 10k, I was astounded and really proud!  It was an accomplishment for me! Now, I just hit 100k.  Joining an elite group of people that includes Brad, and 2 ladies! I dont expect to advance much beyond this.  But I did reach a mile stone!  And given the people on JU, I am appreciative of that. I am content where I am.  I am happy with my participation numbers.  And I thank everyone for letting me share with you. And for your interaction with me. ...

For the last 10 years or so, we have had a drumbeat of experts telling us that man is causing global warming.  And the point to different facts to support their theory.  Altho there is no empiracal evidence to support their theory that it is man doing the damage, they still do a drum beat waring of a world wide catastrophy, ignoring the fact that the biggest factor has always and is the Sun. So this year, the experts found, what?  The Greenland Icepack is thickening! ...

I have been reading Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson's books about the Butlerian Jihad (I always wondered about the title, and am now glad they wrote it and I am reading them).  Jihad is a unique word.  Christians had Crusades, Hindus and Buddhist don't have any equivalent, and indeed the Crusades are not quite the same. Jihad is a powerful word!  Islam gave us this word.  And it can be bad, but then it can also be a cleansing action (read Brian and Kevin). But Jihad al...

I recently posted a Tale of 2 states, sent to me by a friend.  I asked his permission to post it, and he said ok, but to not mention him.  SO I cleaned it up and posted it.  I had thought I had attributed it to anonymous at the end, but upon looking back on it, I see that line was deleted.  So some got the impression that I had written it.  I did not say I did. Then some accused me of avoiding it.  SOme people spend all day haunting the forums, but as I have stat...

There is an old joke about a bunch of old people sitting around and complaining of what they cannot do any longer.  The Punch line is "Yea, but we can still drive". Maybe it is time to retire that joke for good.  It appears an elderly man, suffering from dementia according to reports, struck and killed a pedestrian, and did not even know it!  The man drove another 3 miles with the body sticking in his windshield before a toll taker saw it and called police. Now Dementia can ...

Today, the local rag ran an add by the Department of Social Services listing 49 dead beat parents and their pictures.  In case you are wondering, that is where I work. And the place went bonkers! Excuse me?  While this is the first time for the Old Capital of the Confederacy, they have already done it twice before!  Once in Tidewater, and once in Roanoke!  And the media did not go gaga over it like they did today!  The building was crawling with more broadcast medi...

For anyone following Saddam Hussiens trial, you got to admit he does have a sense of humor.  When asked to state his name, Saddam refused to. But he did state: "I do not respond to this so-called court, with all due respect to its people, and I retain my constitutional right as the president of Iraq," Kind of narrows the field down on who he could be.  However, when one of his former Cronies was asked a question, Taha Yassin Ramadan replied: "I repeat what President Sadd...

I was thumbing through the WSJ op ed pages and came across a fascinating, from a thought provoking standpoint, piece.  The author is quoting one Lawrence Goldstone on what was a major sticking point on the constitution back in 1787.  James Madison finally identified that all the sticking points really boiled down to what to do about slaves in the apportionment of Electoral Votes, Representation, and levies by the feds on the states. The fascinating thing is that in coming to the...

Yep, in a case of life imitating art, a seller on China's version of eBay tried to start selling babies.  It was only a matter of time.  In a country where mandatory abortion is the rule, and childless couples have no babies to adopt, someone decided to start harvesting them from what in all likelihood, were female slaves. The Ad was pulled, but not before at least 50 people saw it acording to reports.  And while the act of selling a baby is illegal in China, the officials are ...

Guess the source of that line, and you will have one of the best war movies ever made.  And it goes directly to the point here.  For in a scene right after that, the following exchange takes place: Captain Rockwell Torrey: Ever hear the name 'Cunliffe'? Nurse Lieutenant Maggie Haynes: It's one of those expensive New England names, isn't it? What does this all have to do with Politics?  I was recently reading an article where the author or one of the posters (I don't r...
