Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

I recently posted a Tale of 2 states, sent to me by a friend.  I asked his permission to post it, and he said ok, but to not mention him.  SO I cleaned it up and posted it.  I had thought I had attributed it to anonymous at the end, but upon looking back on it, I see that line was deleted.  So some got the impression that I had written it.  I did not say I did.

Then some accused me of avoiding it.  SOme people spend all day haunting the forums, but as I have stated before, I cannot get into the forums, so the only way I know when something has been commented upon is through email notification.  I had not received any such notification until today.

Upon learning that the offending article was missing the attribution, I deleted it.  But before letting it go, I did want to appologize to any who thought I was trying to deceive them, or that thought I was the originator.  It was not my intention to deceive nor claim credit.  I posted it as you saw, but the "I" in the first line, I assumed (and it still may be true) was the friend who sent it.

I am not in the habit of plagarizing, and do not make a career of it.  But I also made a mistake in not proof reading the article before I posted it, or indeed at any time since then until today.  Yes, it is plagarism, and for that I am sorry.

I realized just today what had happened, and I will not excuse it.  I merely wanted to explain it.

This is lame, Doc. You didn't "clean it up"

Formatting.  He did not format it well. Sorry you dont buy it, and since you say twice, what is the other?  I am interested to know.  As I said, I dont do forums, so if you found another and did not tell me about it, sorry.  I have not heard.

I guess I am your latest flame target.  Fine.  I dont intend to respond in kind.  If you cant understand that I dont hop all over the forums like you do, sorry about that.  Once I realized it was not attributed, I did delete it. Sorry, I am not throwing myself on the sword hard enough for you.

The "How many JUsers does it take to change a lightbulb" article, Doc.

How soon we forget.

So?  What is your point?  Are you saying that if I post what I think is a good joke, that has been forwarded so many times, that I am a plagarist?

Do you tell Jokes?  DO you attribute the original author at every opportunity?  I tell jokes all the time, and I dont say "Mr. so and so made it up".

This is your lamest point yet.  Fine, flame me all you want.  I really dont give a damn.  I am sure you can find many more posts of mine where I did not attribute the author as I dont know who it is.  But like the light bulb one, (which was reposted without attribution by a second poster), I dont try to find out.

I admitted I was wrong.  Your comparison to what Lucas said means you have the time to research everyhing to the nth degree.  That is your passion.  Since you dont accept my appology, that is fine as well.  I am not looking for forgiveness.  I said I was wrong.  I will not commit suicide because I dont live up to your expectations.  I am not here to please you.  Try Simon for that.

First they came for the communists,
I did not speak out
because I was not a communist.

When they came for the social democrats,
I did not speak out
because I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists
I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews
I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew;

And when they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

Ok, so I'm going to be a buttinski...

I think the problem is not with posting jokes and email forwards, even without attribution, because sometimes it's been around so long that you just don't know where it came from.

The problem is allowing others to believe that YOU authored the piece. The lightbulb thing was obvious to me. You're a clever guy and I have no doubt that you could come up with something like that, but the wording made it clear to me that you did not write it.

However, when AngelaMarie mentioned a misspelling in the piece, you gave an "oops" apology as if the mistake were YOURS, which implied that you were the author. You did not clarify.

I didn't follow the drama with the other post, so I don't know whether you accepted praise or implied authorship, but you certainly did with the lightbulb piece.

You say you didn't do it on purpose, and I can accept that. But please understand that when you post something written by someone else and you receive praise or corrections and don't clarify that you didn't write it, readers WILL assume that you are the author.

I dont remember accepting praise on either.  I do remember on the Lightbulb one asking JU to see where they fit in.  I will quit posting jokes whose authors are not determinable.  On the other, I did not say "yea, what a good boy I am".  Once I realized my ommission, I pulled it.  Not because I did not agree with it, but because of my error, mistake, whatever.

I banter with the listers, sometimes just to acknoweldge their posts.  I dont remember telling anyone (But I am sure LW will find where I did) that I was thanking them for my creativity.

I meant this to be a mea culpa.  I will not allow this to become a flame war with anyone.  If this is going to mean people siding with anyone, which I dont want, then I will cut off comments.

I am sorry if that is harsh.  But that is the way I feel about it.  As I have stated on other issues that started a flame war between people I do respect.

BTW, She did the oops!   I did not comment on her comment of the misspelling.

figurateively speaking... not meaning the actual you....

I left a comment, but it didn't post. Basically I just said that I believed you and that LW did accept your apology (she says it directly). And then I had some other clever stuff too, but I'm too lazy to recreate it. Hope this all ends up okay.

Today it is a figurative quote.  I hope it never becomes a truism again.
