Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Guess the source of that line, and you will have one of the best war movies ever made.  And it goes directly to the point here.  For in a scene right after that, the following exchange takes place:

Captain Rockwell Torrey: Ever hear the name 'Cunliffe'?
Nurse Lieutenant Maggie Haynes: It's one of those expensive New England names, isn't it?

What does this all have to do with Politics?  I was recently reading an article where the author or one of the posters (I don't remember which) called the war on terrorism "Mr. Bush's War".  In the movie quoted above, the 'new england name' person called WWI "Mr. Wilson's War" and WWII "Mr. Roosevelt's War".

The movie did not really go into the politics of the person, so you don't know if they are Republican or Democrat.  But the terminology was and is so similar it got me to wondering.  Who are these people?

I know from the movie that the character was from New England (and yes the family was well off and connected).  I don't know if the same can be said for the individual who made the statement in the Article, but I do know he lives in New England.  So it seems that New England Blue Bloods have a very palpable distaste for war.  Not like a pacifist would.  But like a snob does.  They are equally contemptuous of democrats and republicans who make the tough decisions.

And then I saw it.  John Kerry, Jim Jeffords.  New England Blue bloods with the backbones of linguine.  They are all the same type.  Born into noblesse oblige, and contemptuous of anyone that has to work and earn their living.  Where did they come from and where does the attitude come from?  I can only guess.  But the caste does exist.  They are not confined to New England, but most not residing there can trace their roots back to the area and perhaps the Mayflower itself.

Like the Kennedys, they feel it is their manifest destiny to rule the unwashed masses of this nation by virtue of their birthright.  And since they were born to rule, they will accept no advice or counsel from those people either.

Some are Republicans (or RINOs) and some are Democrats (or DINOs).  The party they belong to does not matter.  For they transcend party politics to try to impose their own warped agenda on an unwilling (by their definition ignorant) nation.  It is no wonder that Hillary Clinton became a carpet bagger and ran for the senate in NY.  She is so desperate to be a part of that crowd.  But as we have seen, they do not accept just anyone into their upper crust and she has had a hard time fitting in.  Kennedy has already endorsed Kerry for 08, and no one has even declared they are running yet!

It would be funny if it was not so sad.  For they are frustrated in their impotence.  They do cause a lot of damage in their recalcitrance and contempt.  But that is about the extent of their power.  And it does gall them.

And like we have seen with Hillary Clinton, there are a lot of wannabees out there.  They see the attitude and mistake it for power.  In the end, there is no power.  Just a pretension of power.  And a bunch of sad elitist that can only gain happiness in the misery of others.

A sad testimony for generations of frustrated people.

Obligatory Disclaimer:  I am not saying all New Englanders are like this.  Just the ones that consider themselves the ruling, or should be ruling class.

So did Jeremiah Torrey.  With the same expectations - cushy job behind the lines.

Ensign Jere Torrey: Leaving, sir?

Captain Rockwell Torrey: Yes. Before I pick you up and throw you to the fish.

I know what that feels like dear boy.

Fortunately for God, Queen, and our Country, you are a citizen of Great Britian and not New England.

'we both know what's eating you drguy...ummm i mean paul.'

you really are confused about blue-blooded american aristocracy if you seriously consider kerry a member of their number. if you wanna educate yourself in this area, you're living in the perfect location...and close enuff to make a pilgrimage to the epicenter at charleston.

Doesn't noblesse oblige imply an actual caring for us "unwashed masses"? Or is it just condescension and disdain?

Kennedy has already endorsed Kerry for '08...

This is the first election I know of that has been decided before the first year is out. Even just after the election results were in, Dems were jockeying for position in '08.

Yep, democracy in America has devolved into the quest for and the retention of political influence.

You do mean Charleston, South Carolina, don't you?
I did not know that Charleston, SC, was the "epicenter" for "blue-blooded American aristocracy" and its political influence in America. It must be real subtle... because I have not seen Charleston be a mover and/or a shaker on the national stage. (Not since Fort Sumter!)

Uh, no.  I am no where near Boston.

It is feigned caring, but more of the latter of what you said.

Agreed!
