Another Hollywood person died this weekend. But this one was special. At least to me. Patricia Neal had a fine career. Not one of headlines that we are constantly bombarded with as some of the "stars" today like to do. But one of grace, beauty and competence that enriched our lives. She was one of the few stars that seemed to love her work for the work, and allowed us to escape on an occasional Saturday from the mundane to the world of make believe She won an Oscar for Hu...
Yes, it is that time again! Test your knowledge of TV theme songs. Not as easy as it looks! At least forme. I got 13 of 15. I should say that the 2 I got wrong, I never watched. But then there was a couple of others I did not watch, just knew as well. At least I did not get 100%.
Any "Silence of the Lambs" out there? If so, dont see this movie. Because as horrible as the earlier ones are (Silence, red Dragon), this one is not. Except for the cannibalism. SPOILER WARNING! Read no Further if you dont want to be spoiled on the movie. Ok, still here (all 1 of you?)? The origin of Hannibal is in 1944 Lithuania. The eastern front. Some Lithuanians, trying to break free of Russia, have hooked up with some Germans. ...
No big article, just a link to Majel and an interview with her on the 40th. I hope all the trekkies read it. It is actually very enlightening! I miss Gene, but not as much as Majel!
Yea, I am yelling! They write an article about Star Trek, and get it wrong! I mean, they are supposed to be about getting the story right! And this is no minor blooper, this one hits any fan like a ton of bricks! The 40th anniversary finds the venerable sci-fi franchise at a crossroads. "Enterprise" was canceled after only four seasons and the last "Trek" film, "Insurrection," was a critical and box office disappointment. Ok, so who is a Trekkie? See the bloope...
John Wayne, Kirk Douglas (Not Mike), Patricia Neal, Burgess Meredith, Henry Fonda, Carrol O'Conner, Dana Meredith. With a partial cast like that, no movie can go wrong. And "In Harm's Way" never does. Made in 1965, and still in Black and White, it is one of the defining movies of the greatest Generation (the other being The Longest Day). And I only said "one of the greatest" as I know many have their own greatest movies. But for me, this one is the greatest. The Lon...
But today, with my wife gone, and the chores all done, I watched some of the Star Trek Uncut on G4. And one of the episodes was about Harry Mudd! And it is one of my favorites (the one with the Robot planet), And I know he was only in 2 (correct me if I am wrong), but he is my favorite villan! yea, he is a pirate (dont we love pirates tho?), but he was never really evil. Just a bumbling con man that gets bested every time he shows up! This one was with the Anne's an...
I just finished re-watching "Ship in a Bottle" and I still love it! This is a totally harmless exercise in the 'grey cells" as Hercule Poirot would say. Barclay inadvertantly resurrects the Moriarity character from another episode (no Wrath of Khan here), and then Moriarity proceeds to dupe Data and Picard, until they realize they are being duped! In the end, of course, Picard and Data turn the tables and put the Hologram Moriarity back in storage. As we knew they would...
Sitting and watching TNG, I am again assaulted by Diane Muldaur when she arrogantly decides that the genetic mutants must be safe, but the wise Captain does not allow her to bring one on board. So they do the deed in a shuttle - she and Data. Of course as we all know, they are the source for the illness cripling the outpost (and killing a ships crew). Since Data is not biological, he can escape. Why did they have to save her with a strand of her hair? Best to have...
Sunday was a lazy day for my wife and I. It was rainy, and I was still recovering from what I now believe to be a bout of food poisoning, so we were doing minimal work. Just some light house cleaning. While doing the laudry and such, we flipped the TV over to the Discovery Channel. They were running a special on Krakatoa, probably the most violent volcanic eruption in recorded history (I find them fascinating). After that went off, they brought on a show titled "The...
Sarah Stoekl has been reviewing movies for some time now, and I do enjoy her reviews. I agree with her more than not (and my son less than not). I think she does a very good job. But I have not seen her review Ray. If she has, I do appologize and beg her forgiveness. I saw Ray this week. And I was very moved! I grew up with Ray Charles Robinson, and yet I knew so little about him (other than his music which I always loved). Th emovies, according to hi...
After a rough day at work (not bad, but I think I am going to have to tell some users their data is gone, but we are still working on it), I came home, popped a brew, turned on the TV to my Favorite Series (all of them), and am insulted by the worst season premier of any Star Trek Series period! OK, flame suit on, I will tell you. Far Point Station and the series - TNG. I hated TNG at first as it was not the original (and unlike Zoomba, I saw the Original in the original!). ...
OK, I hate Hollywood starlets and star jerks like the rest of this nation! But I am sorry. When I was a young pup, horny as hell and randy, I went to the movies. And fell in love with some eyes. The shining glittering eyes of Karen Black. Never to be a major star, but just a bit player, her eyes got me. And I was trapped! Through B movie after B movie, I followed her. Like a faithful puppy. It was the eyes! She is fading now. But to me she wi...
A while back, I wrote an article about the worst Star Trek Character. Today, I am writing about the best guest appearance on Star Trek. I am watching Star Trek Uncut on G4, and the episode is Friday's child. It is not one of my favorites as it is so cookie cutter (the red shirt died in the first 5 minutes), but yet it is. Why? Julie Newmar! yes, she starred in one of the Star Trek Original episodes. Remember that movie with Patrick Swayze? "To Wong Foo, Tha...
So we went to see it today. And it was FUN! It is not going to win any awards, and for sure Tom Cruise is not going to get best actor. But love him or hate him, he was good! The movie was fun, as it started out fast and never slowed down. But, alas for me, I figured all out long before the end. Yet I still loved it! And knowing the end did not detract form it in the least (I whispered to my son a hint that showed I had figured it out - he cursed me afterwar...
