Some of us have been reading about how bad the fires are down in Georgia and Florida.  And California.  ut not being there, it often takes on a surrealism that we dont associate with.  Until something hits home. Here is a letter from my Aunt.  Apparently it is a lot worse than we have been hearing (and why is the MSM JUST talking about Catalina???) The smoke is really bad here in Tarpon Springs.  Visibility is less than 1/4 mile.  They have closed the courth...

As I mentioned on another blog, I have been blessed.  In being able to see several religions from the inside.  And JU has given me an opportunity to see different sects of my religion.  I was raised Catholic.  I strayed,  Back in the days of the Tridentine Masses and all.  But I came back, once I understood the real meaning.  In my straying days, I tested/tasted some Protestant faiths.  Even when I came back, I tasted/tested them again as my parish was...

This week we have been awarded another display of a group of citizens (children), who did not get what they wanted, putting on a display of a childish tantrum.  The difference between the innocence of children and a crying jag, and this group is the level of their destructive behavior. Perhaps America is again responsible for this, now getting to be regular, event.  For it was in 2000 that we saw many of these children yelling and screaming and threatening and crying.  Why?&nbs...

if you don't know what this lottery about, you are too late.  This morning at 9am, the grand and glorious Commonwealth of Virginia (vs a state for you other 45 schmoes) raffled off 54 tickets for the grandest prize in the last 4 centuries (well to some it probably is). These lucky 54 people, and a companion, will get to meet and greet Queen Elizabeth II.  When she comes to celebrate the quadricentenial of the founding of Jamestown this Thursday.  She is going to meet at the old...

Yes, there is a warrant out for a kissing bandit!  AKA Richard Gere!  For kissing Shilpa Shetty on Indian TV!  I had heard that India was a very conservative society, and that their movies (Bollywood - the largest producer of Movies in the world) was very strict on its "sex" scenes, but did not realize that a peck on the cheek would warrant a crime! But apparently it does.  And I guess Mr. Gere is Persona non-Grata now in the triangle land. http://news.aol.com/topnews/art...

pu·ta·tive    Ever heard of the word before?  I had not before this week, but it is a real word.  Reputed.  That one has some negative overtones.  How about "supposed".  That one can have negative overtones, but is better.  The first seems to be the tamest.  "commonly regarded as".  But in this case, it is also the one that least fits the usage I encountered it in. Virginia is creating a Putative Fathers Registry.  We are not the firs...

No Mr. Baldwin.  I don't understand.  Nor do any of your rational friends.  Your tirade of your daughter is inexcusable!  Do you think, in that massive ego of yours, that you are the only parent that has been shafted and lied about during a custody battle?  No wonder your ego could not contain itself when you let your real self out on your daughter's voice mail!  While we all hope that custody battles are civil affairs, the ugly truth is that they rarely are.  ...

By now, we have all heard about the senseless tragedy that occurred at Va. Tech (or VPISU if you want the official name).  For most of us here on JU, it was something that the 24 hour news services had to play over and over and over again, even when there was nothing new to report.  That is not new (or news) as we have come to expect it, and most at JU could escape it by simply turning off the 24 hour News Channels. Not so in the Old Dominion, where we are subject to that coverage n...

One of my tabbies, Sampson, has been sneezing for the last couple of days.  Other than that, he does not seem the worse for wear (well his puppy dog watery eyes are not normal).  But this morning at 6am my wife decided that there was something seriously wrong with him.  So she called the 7x24 Vet place and off we went as the sun was rising (it really did not rise today as it was rainy). Sampson is one of the 3 pound rescue siblings my wife rescued and I adopted (when we were st...
