Actually, 40 years ago today. A fellow member on JU had an article recently where we looked at the top songs of the Rock and Roll era.  Many commented on the omissions, or agreed with the list.  It was a trip down memory lane for some of us.  On it, I noted that I thought the most influential album of all time was the Beatles - Sgt Pepper. I personally like the album, and while not a big Beatles fan, I do love their middle year music.  Especially that Album (and Magical...

They are supposed to be all about Human rights and such.  But lately they have shown that they are just a bunch of juvenile delinquents, pasting graffiti and making idiotic pictures instead of worrying about the genocide that does not seem to be abating, no matter how hard the UN does not try to correct it. Who am I talking about?  Look at the graphic and enjoy the fact that some people just cant seem to grow up. "Not Child Like, Childish!" - Captain Hildrebrand, M*A*S*H 1973 ...

The Feds finally (as in why did they not do this 4 years ago?) caught up with the person they think is responsible for a large part of the growing spam problem (and we are not talking the stuff that comes from pigs). Robert Soloway, who was (is?) living a life of luxury on the backs of zombie computers that send out millions of spam messages daily was arrested and 4 of his accounts (they seem to think he has many more) seized, and hopefully his enterprise shut down.  I say hopefully sinc...

Almost 2 months after Granny took out my vehicle, I found my almost perfect car (thanks to Karma it only has 2 faults - not black and does not run on Water).  For those of you not reading me often, a nice granny in a Lincoln Continental decided to make a left hand turn into a parking lot just as I was passing the entrance.  Needless to say, a toyota truck is no match for a tank, and my truck lost.  After a month of fighting with her insurance company, I got the settlement, and...

The words of the title were once told to me by a priest.  A very liberal priest (theologically speaking) who did not agree with all the statements made by the Pope, but who was and is a good priest. Many people have issues with the Catholic Church.   Some are theological, some personal and some political.  But the simple fact is that Catholicism (and I suspect most if not all faiths) is not a faith by consensus.  We have a set of beliefs, tenets, that we profess and t...

Based upon some examples, not time management or personal responsibility.  From UMass, we get this petulant tripe: This Andrew Card fiasco is really beginning to get on my nerves. I've had to spend the last couple of weeks attending meetings and rallies, as well as signing petitions to try to convince you that your decision (rather, your recommendation to the Board of Trustees) to award a prominent war criminal an honorary degree was "wrong." I have schoolwork to do, I have a new baby ...

Big Fat Daddy got me thinking.  On a blog of little note, he said: some days an open road and any hard drivin' ZZ Top tune and we'll be doing 90 before you know it. And that is so true.  Music is not about the group of the day, or year, or whatever.  It is about the situation.  And the timing. I was talking about one song, yet he reminded me that there are a lot of songs.  Each one reminds us of a different memory.  Sure smell may be the most ...

At least most of the songs I do love, the titles are parts of the Lyrics. With no slight to our own JU masters of lyrics and melody, my favorite song has to be Unchained Melody.  By the Righteous Brothers.  To tell the truthm I do like most of their work, but they are not my favorite band/group/individual. But my favorite song is Unchained Melody.  Which has no real connection to the Lyrics (I suspect it does to them, but not to the average listener).  Yet the melody an...

One last one for the road since it is no longer current.  But I was struck (No, I am not going to sue) by a thought. While I am not a trekkie (others may disagree), I am a die hard Trek Fan.  I think the best was the original, but TNG was good.  As was DS9 for part, and Voyager for most.  Enterprise.......... let's just say I watch it in reruns. But I think I have found the difference.  Why do I like the older episodes?  And tolerate the newer ones? Gene...
