Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

At least it will be.  It seems the director of the Mission Impossible movies wants to do another Star Trek movie.  This one supposedly will be set during the Star Fleet days of Kirk and Spock.

Since this will be a young Kirk and spock, none of our favorite actors and actresses will be able to reprise their roles, but that is ok.  I just hope they do better than the last series Enterprise.

So I am ordering my tickets early and will be standing in line!  Of course I will have a long wait as the movie is not due to be released until 2008!

I did like the Enterprise series with Jean Luc Picard a lot. Why didn't you like it?

Lets hope the new movie will do the series justice! And my goodness 2008 is a long way away! But not too far if you think about it!

Enterprise did not have Jean Luc Picard.  it had Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula).  It was too militaristic, kind of what happened to DS9 after Roddenberry died.

I saw that somewhere. It will be wierd to see this movie without those we love so much. At least Dr. Pulaski is garanteed not to be there.

I miss Data.

Thank god!  There is always a silver lining.

Doc, the lifelong Trekker in me thanks and blesses you for this news!
I had heard some time ago that something like this was in the offing, but that it had died. I wonder if they'll work in younger versions of, perhaps, McCoy and Scott, too?
I hope so...Scotty was my favorite character; him and Spock.

I miss Data
---Charles C.

Maybe they'll work him in somehow. He won't be Data, its true, but maybe he could be one of Dr. Soong's prototypes? he seems to have had many of them.

Now, I liked "DS9", but it WAS a little militaristic, I suppose. Especially toward the end of the series, with the Dominion War with The Founders and their Jem'Hadar soldiers.
They just wanted to show that, even in Roddenberry's "Utopia", there could still be hardship and conflict. Just because the people of Earth learned to get along by the 23rd century, it doesn't mean everyone on every planet in the galaxy (or out of it, for that matter) did.

"Enterprise" wasn't as bad as all that, to me. I liked it to a certain extent.
Yes, it was militaristic, but then, that was fitting, in a way. It was perhaps fifty or a hundred years before "Utopia" blossomed, and Earth was still recovering from the Eugenics Wars ("Khaaaaaaaaan!!!"), Colonel Green's reign of terror and finally WWIII.
A lot of militarism to get out of their collective system.

It was kinda cool to get a glimpse of how things progressed and coalesced from all that into the relatively peaceful, cooperative Trek galaxy of Kirk's time and beyond.

They'll be writing new canon here; not much is known about the Academy days of any of the characters. It would be cool to see another series of movies, or even a TV show, based on this premise.

The casting in this movie is going to be key. If it's got Jessica Simpson in it, I'm banning it. So who would you make Capt. Kirk or Spock. I know Ashton Kutcher as Kirk and Wilmer Valdemerra as Spock. Or even worse Stifler from the American Pie movies also known as Bo Duke. Oh this is just scary.

She's got a point ...

I support your early enthusiasm, Doc ... with a lot of trepidation.

I was actually thinking that they should make it like that "wonderful" remake or Starsky and Hutch, with Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller. I'm envisioning Stiller as the young spock, not quite with the calm of his later years, and Owen Wilson laying back and smoking the bong with his buddies in the academy.

Now THAT would be a winner.

WOW!  You give a lot!  ANd I thank you.  And you are welcome! My son, the movie buff, tried to shock me with this one this weekend.  Hehehehe, I shocked him by already knowing.

But knowing that, we came up with a nightmare scenario.  Ben Affleck as Kirk!  Arrrrggggggggggg!!!!!!!

OMG!  Yes!  I think the only thing that will satisfy most fans are unknowns. None of the current crop of young studs would do it for either character.

Well, entusiasm yes.  But I also have trepedation.  We have 2 years to sweat.
