I was thinking of putting this under the heading of Entertainment as it does have a lot to argue for that.  But then I started listening to the Radio and the results of the day and decided to expand it. American Idol (who Jamie Burnside has been following closely and very well) is down to 3.  America was shocked when Chris Daughtry was voted out as most thought he really was the best (along with the judges).  But that is what happens when you allow America to vote.  Someti...

No, this is not a rabid call to arms to nuke Iran or Saudi Arabia.  This is a story about an outfit in Las Cruces New Mexico that is soliticing donors to come in and donate some plasma (the clear stuff of blood) for gas money!  And I think it is great!  I would hope more people would donate out of a sense of civic mindedness, but if the High gas prices is what is going to push up donations, I am all for it! But it is funny in a way.  For the slogan "No Blood For Oil" now h...

Can anyone tell me what happened 2 days after the date listed in the title? Anyone?  Not you Chakgogka!  You already answered the last 5 questions. Yes, Parated?  That is correct!  Iraq invaded Kuwait and the first Gulf war was at hand.  How is that a current event.  Let me wax nostalgic for a second.  On July 31st, 1990, I was given the option of pre-buying heating oil for the upcoming winter.  As I remember, I bought 500 gallons at a price of 69.9/ga...

Yep, some would say like father, like son.  And it is in one way.  Both involve a woman.  But that is all. What the hell am I talking about?  This is not a diatribe against Patrick.  He has enough problems starting with his father.  No, this is the Capital Police who just queered the case against Cynthia McKinney!  Yep, that "person higher than a patrolman" just proved her point, and probably allowed her to walk. Whether Patrick was drinking or not, is re...

I am not a golfer.  I have never played the game (Putt Putt does not count).  Watching golf was like watching paint dry to me! Until Tiger Woods came along.  He brought excitement to a dull sport and put a smile on it.  He is a great golfer.  And he says he is a great person because of his father, Earl Woods. Earl Woods died today.  And Tiger mourns the loss of his best friend.  And I, and most of the world, mourn one of the great teachers and fathers of ...

Well, at least in the pay as you go media.  It seems Airhead America is down 33% in the liberal mecca of NY and about to lose its flagship station.  And The Daily KOS, a real wacko loony loopy luddite left wing blog that is just this side of du.org, latest tome is tanking it on the selling list.  It seems that no one wants to be constantly bombarded with a daily diatribe of negativism.  Not even their faithful (only in position, not in the LLL aspect) dont want to hear it. ...

Ah yes, my little chickadee!  Yessss.  It seems the internet is the new phone book, or morning paper.  And cannot be used for termination. At least to one NY Judge.  Oops!  That is going to hurt a lot of employers. But the judge is right (not in his ruling - that I will leave to legal beagles) in his definition of the Internet. How many people use the yellow pages?  How many actually READ a newspaper? (I did today waiting for the dentist.  Did I mentio...

The Internet Joke about house to house Breast Exams appears to have someone who literally tried it and succeeded!  Philip Winikoff went door to door offering free Breast Exams, and got 2 women to fall for it!  After being allowed entry into their house, the then proceeded to sexually assault them! Sex Assault is no laughing matter, nor is this incident.  But one has to wonder about the victims here.  How blonde can you get?  But I guess with professors and legal secre...

Well, we know that Souter's home was saved.  Why?  What a waste. But now states and localities, red and blue are passing laws at a furious pace.  Trying to stop the Kelo Decision from being enacted.  The latest is in Florida.  Where a family, living in a house for 34 years is in danger of being evicted so a developer, not the government, can build some Condos.  And they are fighting it.  Are they wishing to "stick it to the man".  Actually no, they ...

Sorry, no link as it is Fox news Radio.  But I am going "say what?".  What a stupid statement!  We are already there!  And it is not summer!  Where do they get these analysts?  From Sears? Seriously, what moron is not predicting it?  Excuse me?  Have you noticed that Gas has shot up about 50 cents a gallon over the last 3 months? Why do we have talking heads instead of investigative reporters?

It seems a Canadian has done what the US government and all the laws of the land could not.  Made sex offenders scared!  IN an action that no one has been able to explain yet, Stephen Marshall picked some names off the Maine Sex Offender registry and went a hunting.  He killed 2 of them before killing himself.  While I can in no way condone his vigilante actions, apparently now many sex offenders are getting scared that someone else may try his trick. Said one sex off...

It seems at OSU (Ohio State) that yes, that is one of a group of books that some members of the faculty have decided is sexual harassment.  A librarian suggested 4 conservative tomes as part of the first year reading Experience, one of which was Rick Santorum's book, and another by David Horowitz.  While no one will argue that these are conservative writers, I hardly think they are demonstrative of sexual harassment.  Indeed, I fail to see how any books could be thus construed...

In another example of Zero Tolerance being proved to be stupid, a young man in Indiana is in danger of getting expelled.  Why?  Because he was honest! The facts are not in debate.  Elliot Voge discovered shortly before arriving at school that he had forgotten a swiss army knife in his jacket pocket.  He went directly to the office and turned it in.  The office is just inside the doors.  He told them of his error.  He did not try to hide it, or plant it on an...

This one probably should have gone under humor, but hey, if the Sun Times Prints it, it must be news right? Apparently thieves have a new modus operandi.  They are stealing oven doors!  Why you ask?  I am glad you asked that.  Apparently they are fencing them as Flat Screen TVs! "hey Martha, look at this cool picture of Duck a l'orange!". At first detectives did not know why thieves were breaking into unoccupied houses and stealing Oven doors, until one Einstein picked ...

I thought about putting this in Personal Computing since that is my career, but decided perhaps it is indicative on modern society. Over the past 6+ months, I have been faced with many situations where diagnosing a problem has been slammed, and do something pushed.  To the effect that our network has been compromised several times by rash decisions by bosses that don't know what the hell they are talking about, but must get results "NOW".  Even tho said results cost us many hours of...
