Another great died today.  At least in my book.  This time it was Ernest Borgnine.  An actor who entertained a young boy and young man on many occasions.  I really loved his cameo in RED, and he looked great for being 95.  But alas, our bodies wear out usually long before our minds do. Thinking back over the people that I have written about, the ones that I miss as father time chases all of us down to the ground, I noticed that most of the ones I miss the most are not...

"In days of old, when knights were bold, and toilets were not invented..." Oops!  Wrong story.  However the story is about an old practice (I will not say ancient as I am rapidly approaching that category) of "blood letting" was regularly performed to get rid of the "bad blood" that was causing disease and other ailments.  Modern medicine has since terminated that practice and most doctors poo-poo that practice as ancient superstition. Until now.  You see our ancestors ...

As you age, the people of your youth start to pass away. It is the inevitable march of time, and the undeniable truth that no one lives forever.  After a while, you come to expect hearing of someone passing that brought you joy or made you laugh. This week was very hard for me.  On Thursday, Steve Jobs, who helped create the Microcomputer industry passed away.  His vision and tenacity helped give me a career.  But worst of all, he was my age. Then today, Al Davis passed...

At the urging of Big Fat Daddy, I submit this revelation to the state bound population of the US.  Those in Europe will probably read this and go "duh!".  But you have to understand that this nation was settled by some puritans and the strain still runs through the population to a degree. I spent most of my youth living near an ocean, so swimming was always a summer activity.  But when we moved to Germany at the start of my junior year of High School, the nearest ocean was seve...

How do you tell what is a liberal applogy? A. "I am sorry.  I mis-spoke and I regret my words." B. "I appologize for my statement that was made in anger and repented in leisure." C. "I am sorry for my words and deeds.  They were wrong, and I have no excuse." D. "I am sorry that people are too stupid to understand what I was really trying to say." Now, check out the latest liberal appologies and categorize them.

Give me a head of hair, long beautiful hair, shinin', gleamin', steamin', flaxin', waxin'. give me down to there hair, sholder length or longer, here baby, there mama, everywhere..... Acknowledgement to Treat Williams. What is it about Hair.  Half the guys I know are bald, or very short cut.  And we like it that way (and yes, count me as one - it is cooler).  Yet on a woman, even one that may not be pretty at first glance, long hair is sexy, provacative, cute, and just id...

Long lost in antiquity, the legends of Witches and cats was legend.  Back in the days of black and white we had "Bell, Book, and Candle" with Pyawacki (sp).  (for the clueless, it had James Stewart and Kim Novak as well). What is it about cats?  Forget the witches!  But cats?  I was lonely and had not heard from my wife due to the cellular differences between europe and America in a week.  And only gotten spotty badly spelled emails due to the fact that Europe is...

How many like Sarcasm?  I revel in it!  I love it!  Yes, I am a sarcastic SOB!  I am very sarcastic.  Sarcasm is a way of making a point when you are dealing with a bunch of 'feeling' people instead of thinking ones.  So I use it daily (I work for a 'Feeling' Agency anyway). The latest example is a co-worker.  One of those "feeling" people who said he was only working there because he thought he could do some good (yet he sweated when his contractor job ...

Recently, I bought my son an iPod for helping me in the yard.  He earned it!  but when it came, it would not work!  No matter what we tried, it would not work.  I spent an hour on the phone with their tech support - no luck.  They told me to return it to the Apple store. Well, I am not a technoneophyte.  So it was not like I was a rube about it.  I know how to follow instructions and the tech lady was very polite.  So after work (I am working half days ...

Ah yes, that old cliché - the Road to hell is paved with good intentions.  It may be old, and it may be a cliché, but like other natural laws, it is also true.  And it is about to be proven again by the Evil big box store Wal-Mart and the City of Chicago. Chicago has decided to gig big companies.  Requiring that they pay their employees a 'living' wage of at least $10/hour with another $3/hour kicked in for benefits (probably mostly health, but also Vacation and sick time).&nbs...

I do love the Beatles.  HOw do the brits say them?  No matter, Maso will translate into Aussie for us Colonials! And now for your reading pleasure, The Best Beatles song ever!  Koo-Koo-Ka Cho!   "I Am the Walrus" I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together. See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly. I'm crying. Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come. Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday. Man, you...

Well, the king os boring books is at it again.  Saying that: "The only difference between Bush and Hitler is that Hitler was elected." And driveling on with such assinine statements like: Vonnegut then reportedly told the Ohio State audience: "You all know, of course, that the election was stolen. Right here.” But I guess his stupidest statement shows his complete lack and grasp of reality: "I’m lucky enough to have known a great president, one who really cared about A...

I give blood.  I have O-, so they REALLY like me!  And it costs me nothing usually.  I estimate I have given about 150 pints between here and Dayton since I was 18.  And every 8 weeks, like clockwork, they call me and ask for another pint.  I hate needles with a passion!  I cannot look at it when they stick me, nor at the needle hanging in my arm.  And as I told Bluedev, I hate blood too!  I come from a family of doctors, and I was a failure at it!  C...

For those of us a certain age, we grew up with the Munsters, and loved the series, especially Fred Gwynn.  Al Lewis played grandpa Munster, and was an integral part of the series.  Always coming up with potions and weird inventions. I guess all of our favorite characters (and I am not talking about the roles people play) are passing away.  A sign of age I guess. Thanks Grandpa!  For a lot of great memories!

What is "reverse Discrimination"?  With Kudos for Dharma ( http://dharmagrl.joeuser.com/index.asp?aid=98164 ) for allowing me to opine on the subject, how can you reverse it?  From the pertinent entry on Dictionary.com, the meaning of discrimination is: Treatment or consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit; partiality or prejudice: While her intent was to castigate a racist and bigot, it got me thinking.  What really is reverse discriminatio...
