Then do not participate. You make a statement in one of your posts about how the current Admin is trying stifle investigative journalism and then threaten to try and silence someone who disagrees with you? I have not seen any name calling from anyone that is any worse than any of your name calling. The only diffrence seems to be that you are so self-righteous about your beliefs that you think you are justified when you do it. You can not hope to get people to listen to you if you act out of such blatant hypocrisy. Dabe, I can understand you regret for your flippant remark, but there is no amount of excuses or trying to say, "The devil made me say it" that will change the fact that you said it. Take some responsibility for yourself and your mistakes and maybe you will grow from the experience. I have seen the other posters' remarks. Both good and bad, many just as emotional and lacking actual substance, but none trying to portray themselves as something above that as you have done. I originally tried to engage you in a debate about the Viet Nam-Iraq comparison you were trying to make. I then noticed that you did seem to be interested in an actual intelligent and fact based debate, but one that merely repeats someone else's party line. In effect you came across to me as a political groupie, not a real independent thinker. I tried several gentle suggestions and observations to get you pointed to a real discussion, but you have let your emotions and unwillingness to take responsibility for your own words or responsibility to work at your opinions interfere with coherent thought.

I would say just cut your losses on this one and quietly step out of it. Learn from the experience and try to be a little better prepared next time you want debate a sensitive issue.
