Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

I don't know why, but my first car has always been my favorite.  A 66 VW Bug with a sun roof!  I miss that car!  When a snow storm flared up during rush hour on the way to work, and the station wagon and sedan in front of me slipped into the ditch, and the School bust got stuck, my bug, shifted into first, got me out of there along with the stranded motorists who were glad that I had a car that could drive in the snow.

It was not a Cadillac!  in fact when it rained, the driver side filled up with water!  The Gas Pedal I had to replace, and still I had to use my toes to use it as the guides broke. But when the gas pedal broke? I bought a new wire and installed it myself. And I am Car handicapped!

The Radio?  Pulease!  AM only and then the speakers cracked!

It got bad, so that I had to get the students at VA.Tech to push me to get it started!  Those were the days!

But I had a sun roof!  It leaked oil like a sieve!  And that was what got me.  I cracked the engine on I-64,  I had not added any for a few days.

But it was my first, a stick and I loved it!  Anyone got another one?

My first car was a 1993 toothpaste green geo metro, which I recieved for my 16th birthday in 1997. The passenger side mirror was missing and the radio had a short in it. I soon decked it out with many bumper stickers including "I heart s8er boys," "Mall*Wart: your source for cheap plastic crap," and the ever popular "Mean People Suck."

In the summer of 2002, it was pouring down rain. Some lady made a left out of a Target parking lot, but she stopped in my lane. I ended up hitting her head on. I was pretty banged up...bruises everywhere. I had to go to PT for injuries to my back and knees. To this day my knees act up every now and then, but damn, I loved that Metro!

Dont we always!  Is it the car?  I would love to get a Bug (a real one) again.  Or just that it is our first?

Sorry for the wreck, but glad you got your money's worth!

Mine was a Pine green.  Is it the color Green?

ahhh, VW's, love for the driver. I drive a 93 v6 passat with a broken sunroof, stick of course, and I've never even looked at another car. You have to start it at least once every two days, I just fixed the brake lights and when it rains outside, a little comes in to let me know. It's something about em, something that makes the drivers always fondly think back, something that makes all the little quirks just more personable. It's a pity we all can't enjoy each other as much as our cars.

I miss my old Chevy Malibu wagon, 1981 model. Put lots of money into it, and it took the son and me to Gooseberry Falls
in the summer, took us to Duluth, we went to a local park here in town, after my second heart attack and I spun doughnuts
in the dirt, cause I needed to let off steam......
and it was fun!

I miss going on road trips with it, and being able to go to drive-inns and watching a whole buncha movies, and being able to
sleep in comfort if I could'nt stay awake.

Ohhhhhhhhh now I really miss it.......

Well, other than the model, yours sounds about the same as mine.

I have a 70 VW Karmann Ghia.  It is a "fair weather" friend, though, as I am sure that every seal on it leaks.  We're putting a rag top in her soon.  I love that car.....  and, she's yellow.

My first car cost $400. It was a 1981 Mercury Cougar. Very boxy. Beige with a navy blue fender which gave it character and also gave me the right of way. It also leaked oil horribly. The guys at work joked about turning me into the epa. I never had more guys come on to me than when I was checking my oil at the gas station. I guess it was the whole helpless female thing. For a long time I hated that car. I wanted something nice and new and pristine but after it was gone, I missed it.

One of my first cars was a '63 Chevrolet Belair. I could put a mattress in the boot and camp out in it. My first wife and I had many a good time on the back seat of this car at the drive-in movies. I can't remember a single picture, but I sure remember the times we had. I spent a lot of time and some money making the car run better, look better and handle well. The car I had after it was a '69 VW Bug, which was like going from a large home to a caravan in terms of size and room. Still, I had a lot of fun with the bug as well. Ah, those were the days...

I heard bad stories about those.  But I dont guess it is the greatness of the car that gets us, but a sentimental attachment to it for some unknown reason.

You would be surprised what you can do in a Bug!

Karmann Ghias are not much different than bugs, they just look different.  They have the same drive trains as bugs do, and a lot of the parts (except body stuff) are interchangeable.

You don't have a car like that as transportation, though, unless you are a glutton for punishment.  i just love the little car even though it's impractical and requires work.

I had as much fun on the back seat of the Bug as I did on the back seat of the Chevy. It just required more contortion. Ah, those were the limber days, my friend...
