Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.
Published on October 21, 2005 By Dr Guy In Blogging

I recently posted a Tale of 2 states, sent to me by a friend.  I asked his permission to post it, and he said ok, but to not mention him.  SO I cleaned it up and posted it.  I had thought I had attributed it to anonymous at the end, but upon looking back on it, I see that line was deleted.  So some got the impression that I had written it.  I did not say I did.

Then some accused me of avoiding it.  SOme people spend all day haunting the forums, but as I have stated before, I cannot get into the forums, so the only way I know when something has been commented upon is through email notification.  I had not received any such notification until today.

Upon learning that the offending article was missing the attribution, I deleted it.  But before letting it go, I did want to appologize to any who thought I was trying to deceive them, or that thought I was the originator.  It was not my intention to deceive nor claim credit.  I posted it as you saw, but the "I" in the first line, I assumed (and it still may be true) was the friend who sent it.

I am not in the habit of plagarizing, and do not make a career of it.  But I also made a mistake in not proof reading the article before I posted it, or indeed at any time since then until today.  Yes, it is plagarism, and for that I am sorry.

Dr.Guy:
will quit posting jokes whose authors are not determinable.

That's a personal choice, but I don't think anyone is suggesting that you do that.

On the other, I did not say "yea, what a good boy I am". Once I realized my omission, I pulled it. Not because I did not agree with it, but because of my error, mistake, whatever.

And that's admirable.

I banter with the listers, sometimes just to acknoweldge their posts. I dont remember telling anyone (But I am sure LW will find where I did) that I was thanking them for my creativity.

I'm not suggesting that you did. Again, I didn't follow the other post. On the lightbulb one, for me, it comes down to that one comment that implied authorship.

I meant this to be a mea culpa. I will not allow this to become a flame war with anyone. If this is going to mean people siding with anyone, which I dont want, then I will cut off comments.

I'm not sure how my reply was flaming or offensive to you, Dr.Guy. I was not being insulting, but simply giving my perspective.

I am sorry if that is harsh.

I would not consider it harsh if it were warranted. As it stands, though, I didn't add fuel to any fire. I'm not attacking you. Not in the least.

BTW, She did the oops! I did not comment on her comment of the misspelling.

AngelaMarie:
by the way, you spelled that word wroooong. Oops.

Dr.Guy:
Yes Miss Chestnut. (2nd grade teacher).

This was the PERFECT opportunity to explain that it was not your work. Instead you accepted responsibility for the grammar error in the piece.

You may not have intended to imply authorship, but you did, partially by omission, but partially by reinforcing the idea it was yours by accepting the blame for the error in your comment.

I'm not saying Dr.Guy=Bad. I'm just saying, this is how it looks to ME, i.e., this is why some people might think you authored the piece, hence the controversy over plagiarism.

You missed it.  I was asking people to classify themselves.  She did.  I acknowledged her classification.  I cannot be in the minds of every reader.  I am sorry I disappointed you.  Taken out of context, way out, you are right.  I will delete that one as well.  I am sorry you are offended.  I mean to offend many with my political articles.  Not with the humorous ones.

Just for the hell of it, did anyone notice the font was not the normal font?  As in I am not as stupid as Dan Rather.  I did not try to hide my cut and paste.

Dr.Guy:
I am sorry I disappointed you.

You didn't disappoint me. I believe you when you say you didn't mean to imply that. I'm not upset, angry, or offended in the slightest.

You're taking this way too hard, love.

Taken out of context, way out, you are right.

Perhaps I am the only person in the blogosphere who would have made that particular connection from the context. That's just how it read to me.

I will delete that one as well. I am sorry you are offended. I mean to offend many with my political articles. Not with the humorous ones.

No, no, no. I'm not offended. I'm not bothered. Not in the slightest. And even if I were, how much do my thoughts matter? Do you blog to make me happy? No? Ok, then.

No worries, my friend.

It's no biggie. I was just sharing my thoughts with you.

I think the problem is not with posting jokes and email forwards, even without attribution, because sometimes it's been around so long that you just don't know where it came from.

The problem is allowing others to believe that YOU authored the piece.

That was my issue with it. It's okay to post things from elsewhere on the net, but just don't take credit for them. And, by NOT saying that you don't know where it came from, you somewhat imply that you wrote it.

Anyhoo, DG, you 'fessed up, and your apology is accepted. Just don't do it again or else I'll have to pull your pants down and smack your bottom in fromt of your friends.

Your acceptance is one of the ones this was aimed at.  I will be more careful in the future.  I appreciate very greatly your willingness to allow me to atone for my errors.

Thank you.

A great deal to me.  A great deal. I respect you a lot.

I believe you Doc.
Seems like some people just have too much time on their hands.......
and go looking for some fire to start.

"some are the tinder and some are the spark" heard that somewhere....

have a super duper weekend!

That will not bother me, I hope Dave and Rose do not mind!

So, are we ok now? No more of that stuff are you'll get your hands slapped! Seriously though, I didn't notice any of these things, don't even remember if I replied, probably didn't. But you admit your error, you're sorry, we move on....I hope!

That is a great quote.  I will find out who did it.  And thank you as well.

I appreciate the forgiveness.  And yes, we move on.  I will be twice careful in the future.  I do appreciate being told about it.  I do not want to ever be called a plagarist.  I hope that I do not make the same mistake again.  And will be vigilant for it.

Thank you,

JoeUser appears to be a very different place depending on how you access it.

How can anybody not get into the forums? And what is that about email notifications? I don't know anything about that!

I get an error saying no new articles. Since I can get everywhere else, I have not tried to figure it out.  But since it is from many different computers, on different subnets, I suspect it is a firewall issue.

As for email, you can set that by default on all your articles, or click on the watch glass on the top of each article.
