When Brain Dead Administrators do Much Harm
Published on November 21, 2007 By Dr Guy In Current Events

One of my "windmills" that I joust at is the stupidity of Zero Tolerance.  I have written more articles than I care to think of on the subject pointing out that School Administrators - as a group, appear to be brain dead, and nothing more than automatons.  Having worked in the field for over 10 years, I saw it first hand.  Don't get me wrong.  I am not talking about all educators.  Indeed, I found most teachers (definitely not all) to be highly competent and caring - and hamstrung by what the husband of a teacher called "burnt out teachers promoted to administrators".

And so it goes.  So Johnny gets suspended for thinking of a gun.  OK, that does affect his future, but as someone said "kids are made of rubber - they bounce back".  Most will anyway.

But when those very same brain dead administrators decide that the best way to reduce crime is to not report it - then real damage is done!  And so it goes with the latest one.  An Assistant principal decided that in order to reduce the crime level in his school - no calls to 911 would be made without his express approval (and the rest of the brain dead group went along with it).  And in so doing, they have probably condemned a young girl to a life time of hardship because SHE WAS SUFFERING A STROKE!

If the circumstances were not so horrific, this would be a great joke on the Internet.  But it is no Joke.  it is a sad fact - a the perfect illustration - of the current state of Public education in this nation.  A monopoly that is regulated by no one (since it is government - how can you regulate yourself?).  And one that not only abuses our children - but now endangers them.

people will say "Put them in Private school!" and for many (and many are doing it) that is an option, but for most it is not.  Even more damning is the fact that regardless of whether you can pay for private education or not, you ARE paying for their public education.  And education that is basically treating them like statistics.  And because of those statistics, endangering them to life long disabilities.

Gideon has his Windmill - CPS.  Anyone who reads me knows mine - ZT=ZI.  And until we get those brain dead teachers (called administrators) out of Public education, it is the most dangerous place for the children to be.  And a vast waste of your tax dollars.

I blame the brain dead administrator for making the rule, and the brain dead administrators for not using their brains to circumvent it. I thought I made that clear in the article. If not, I appologize for my obliqueness.

We pay them to make decisions, but instead of making decisions, they hide behind "Zero Tolerance" policies. In other words, they aren't worth their paychecks.

One sentence sums it up! Thank you.

Frankly, in the story listed, pretty much everyone gets blanket blame. Yes, the administrators for having ridiculously restrictive rules, but yes to other adults for not doing something.

And you know what? Blame also on the other students, who (let's be honest, if this was a middle school or high school someone would have a cell phone) didn't call either, rules be damned.

Yeah, but if it's "keep the rules and watch this person suffer or call 911" there's no excuse valid excuse from anyone.

Schools ban cell phones. Yes everyone of the administration deserves blame. But I would not extend that to the students. In a school, they are not in charge. and in most, they do not have the knowledge or the facilities.

Or even know what the hell a seisure is.

And so I have to ask. At 14 did you know what to look for? Was this just an episode or a dodge to get out of class? Are we now going to ask the students, who have seen little more than their parents nuturing them to become adults?

yes some are that responsible. But most are not. Most still gross out at vomit, let alone a seizure. And woe be to the student who freaks out over it and calls 911 when the admin says thou shalt not. I guess the next headline is going to be "irrational student misuses the 911 system".

yea, lets let the students take control. based on this, they cannot do any worse.

All through growing up, we always had at least one kid who was epileptic, so yeah, anyone in my school would've known exactly what was going on.

And if cell phones are banned, there's pay phones, the office phone, or SOMETHING. I'll concede that the MAJORITY of the blame lies on the teachers and administrators, but someone should have done SOMETHING.

Then yours is not a normal school. IN most, there is no pay phone, there is no SOMETHING. And most do not have your experience, I did not. As it is farely rare, I doubt most did.

And as for the other phones, in this day and age when you cannot even draw a picture of a gun, do you think that students have access to outside communication?

I dont know if these students do. I do know that she was taken away from them, held in an administrative area, and left to basically suffer.

IN this area, given that scenario, I know that the only ones that would have access to her would be adults, not students. And they would or should be responsible. And they should at least have been responsive. And not many students (in any school system) would know what to do even with EMT training, much less with any outside help.

Would you or I or JU have done something? probably. But we are not the normal student in a school. Or are trained (except for the likes of Parated) to know what is happening.

That is why 911 was created, and in this case circumvented. For a bunch of brain dead administrators that were afraid of numbers not the welfare of students. But then I repeat myself.

Man that was something else....

Yes, you have captured the essence.  They are educators  But unfortunately some think they are gods.  And it is not they who suffer (he got another position - fancy that), but the children.

i will put it this way the VP makes gene look smart. and we all know how smart i think gene is.

all of the adults in the office or went into the office for that hour were criminal.

As far as the kids not calling go, I'd say it would be one of those situations where they aren't at fault for not breaking the rules and calling 9/11, but some did, then they are heroes.
