Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

My wife is on a crusade. To get us in the Tachy Light Show of Richmond.  Not all at once, but each year we add some more, and some more.  I figure next year we will qualify!  But it takes a long time to put up 20k lights!  So when it comes to taking them down, I am a charter member of the Procrastinators club.

Fortunately, Aunt Ginny has bestowed on their lowly serfs a 4 day weekend in the middle of January.  We not only get MLK day off, but a thing (that long predated it) called Lee-Jackson day off.  Both on around the same weekend (for the furiners - that is the weekend coming up).  So I will start boxing them up this friday, and finish by Monday (I hope).

Some here turn off their lights the day after Christmas.  Some leave them on through New Years day (at night of course).  I have always followed the 12 days of Christmas which ends on the Epiphany - Jan 6th.  So I leave them up at least until then.  But then, the weekend is only a week later!!!!!

But I am curious for you decorators.  When do you de-deck the halls?  And what have you heard about how long to leave them up?  No, we are not the ones with them still up in February.  But we squeeze a week or 2 more out of the thing just because decorating is fund (well at least beautiful).  Undecorating is just plain work!

Undeck the halls of them boughs of Holly, fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la..........

I leave them up thru Jan 6 as well. I actually took down all the outside decorations (and most of the inside decorations) yesterday. Still have my tree up though...it's just too pretty to take down..I don't want to do it yet.

btw, some relatives of mine left their roof lights up all of last year...I'm sure there were some neighbors shaking their heads at this...lol.

We tried that one year.  The squirrels made sure they did not work!

My mom had it ingrained (is that a word?) in myhead that it is bad luck to take down the decorations before New Years. So, that is when we take everything down.

Yes it is a word!  And I am glad you dont spend the day after Christmas taking down decorations that took you a month to put up!

Mine are coming down.  friday!  And not before!

When I did put up decorations (when Storm was still living at home) I would take them down on the 3rd day after Christmas - I personally cannot stand Christmas decorations so having them in the house was always a bit of chore for me.

Thankfully - I no longer have to bother. sad very sad I know!

We put them up the Thanksgiving weekend and take them down the weekend (or so) after New Years.

When I was a child,  we took ours down on New Year's Day,  after a big lunch.

As an adult I followed that tradition,  until 1990.  Now it's whenever I feel like I've seen them long enough,  some years that takes until Feb.

No, to each their own. I just hate doing the take down. But then, that is because it takes so long to put them up!!!

I have been known to do that in the past.

I took mine down before Christmas. I couldn't stand looking at them anymore. They just depressed me. And we were leaving anyway. I guess I need to up the meds around the holidays, eh?

At least when we got to Minnesota I was okay.

I think I took all my crap down just before Jan 1 this year...I had to come back here so I didn't have a whole lot of time and I'm the only one around the house that can handle moving all that crap. Luckily, we don't put any lights up outside...when you live in the country, not many people will even see it...which kinda defeats the purpose.
