Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Our newly selected senator from the not so great state of Virginia, has decided that war is better than peace. At a social at the White house for newly elected 'representatives' (and I use that term lightly), George Bush sought out Jim Webb, the FIRED Sec of the navy (it appears with good reason) during Reagan's administration, to ask about his son.

Webb's response?  FO!  Well, he was not that ribald (how I don't know, his social skills are on the level of alley oop).  But the intent was there.  So much for Reid and Pelosi's grandiose pronouncements of bi-partisanship.

For the last 12 years, and especially the last 6, we have had to endure pure vitriol from the left as they proposed nothing (we had no power to!  Auntie Em!), but spewed enough hate to fill a battleship.

Guess what?  Nothing has changed except they are in power!  And they have not changed their tune! No Proposals, no solutions, just the same old hate.

FO they tell all and everyone!

Thank you for electing Jim Webb!  Welcome to his hell.  You dealt it, not smell it.

Here's what Webb really said...according to your source article;

Webb answered that he really wanted to see his son brought back home, a source close to Webb reported.

FO???

And what does this incident really have to do with bi-partisanship? This is obviously personal to Webb, not political.

webb had nothin about which to be pissed off.

sure, he went outta his way not to mention his son during the campaign.

it ain't as if he's that grieving mother who--during one of those audiences bush grants some parents of troops killed in action in iraq--said something to the effect that her boy really did have a wonderful life ahead of him had he lived.  our commander-in-chief responded by asking how anyone could know something like that.

Bullshit.  He made his sons service a part of almost every campaign commercial (except the ones bashing Allen).

What are you talking about Dr.Guy? Your source doesn't continue to discuss Webb's response any further than what Davad said.

Bush was completely and totally out of line to ask about his son in "small talk" at this function. Being from the social elite, he should have been well aware of the mistake he was making (particularly when his own two charming daughters are making a spectacle of themselves in South America). Senator-elect Webb handled the situation (from everything I've read) as Miss Manners would have recommended.

As for the full transcript--here's what Wonkette is citing from the Washington Post:

Here’s the paper’s version of the exchange:
“How’s your boy?” Bush asked, referring to Webb’s son, a Marine serving in Iraq.

“I’d like to get them out of Iraq, Mr. President,” Webb responded, echoing a campaign theme.

“That’s not what I asked you,” Bush said. “How’s your boy?”

“That’s between me and my boy, Mr. President,” Webb said coldly, ending the conversation on the State Floor of the East Wing of the White House

Somebody call the Doctor a Waaaaaaaaambulance.

Poor Republican, all in the minority and suddenly wanting to be "bipartisan."

It smacks of utter bullshit. Which is par for the course for the good Doctor.

I said except for the ones slamming Allen.  What part of that did you not understand?  And please show me ANYWHERE on this site where he lists how many times each one ran?

Bullshit is right.  I know you must have seen a lot of them in your state last fall.

Mistake he was making?  Excuse me that etiquette and decorum were also a victim of the last election.  I was unaware of the democrats running on a platform to ban it.

The Exchange continued: Bush: That is not what I asked, I asked how was your son? Webb: That is between me and my boy.

Just because the link no longer lists the whole conversation does not in 2006 mean that it does not exist.  I would hope at least that the new majority, besides breaking campaign promises BEFORE taking power, did not implement new speak.

In polite company you do not bring up topics of conversation that will cause a debate or make the other party feel ill at ease. Webb made an entirely appropriate response to an entirely inappropriate question.

And you've misunderstood my point. I'm not suggeting that the Dems are trying to ban etiquette and decorum. Rather, I'm saying that Senator-elect Webb would have gotten a gold star from Miss Manners and President Bush would have been politely scolded for his lack of manners.

What? What does the number of times aired have to do with what Kingbee said?

You said he mentioned "his sons service a part of almost every campaign commercial (except the ones bashing Allen)." You didn't say "in the ads that ran most frequently." What does the length of time it aired have to do with your initial assertion and Kingbee's rebuttal?

No, but a huffing burnt out ex-teacher who cant hold a job due to brain decay sure smacks of utter bullshit.  You do continue to amaze me.  On how childish and immature you can sink.

And I never said I "Wanted" anything.  Your Il Duces said that.  But I guess in your drug induced haze, you cant tell the difference.

Asking about one's children is not cause for a debate. But I guess in new speak it is.  That is utter nonsense! Webb was and is way out of line.

on Nov 30, 2006

What? What does the number of times aired have to do with what Kingbee said?

How many of the ads did you see/hear?  He may have 100 ads, but if 99 of them never ran or ran once, and the other one ran 1000 times, it makes a big difference now doesn't it?  For it is the quantity of the ads - not the diversity - that the voters saw/heard during the campaign.  So when I say almost every one, maybe I should new speak and say "almost everyone aired" since that is where 99.9% of the voters hear and see them.

I saw all the ads that Kingbee linked to during the campaign season.

Asking about a son (and, might I add referring to him as a "boy") while said son is defending our country in a very controversial war that the father does not support is cause for debate. Dr. Guy, please do not pretend that the President was unaware of the situation when he asked the Senator-elect the question.
