In the movie "My Fellow Americans", Vice President Ted Matthews arranged a coup against the president, who had to resign over a scandal. His devious tricks were recorded by 2 former presidents (who remind one greatly of Bush 41 and Clinton), and he then was summarily tried and convicted. Of a crime to be sure, but mostly of stupidity ("It is all a FayKade.").
While not having committed any impeachable or prosecutable offenses, Gov. Tim Kaine of Virginia is rapidly becoming the Ted Matthews of politics, not only in Virginia, but throughout the nation. IN the latest utterance of ignorance, the Governor told the Washington times regarding illegal immigration:
"It does matter to a number of people, but compared to jobs, education, health care, transportation, it's pretty far down," he said.
That was on January 31, 2006. A day later, the House of Delegates passed, by a 77-22 margin, a bill restricting the rights of illegal immigrants, and allowing the state police to detain them. This bill did not spring up over night. Bills in the legislature have to be submitted long before then so that they can be read, discussed and the committee overseeing that area can then recommend or vote them down to the full House. So it was not like the Republicans in the House blind sided him (and for those who do not know, the Republicans only lead 52-47 in the house with one Republican leaning Independent), nor that it was a strictly partisan vote.
Apparently, and sadly in the case of Virginia, life is imitating art. And we know have the embodiment of Ted Matthews leading this state.
Tim Kaine is no Mark Warner.
