"Tim Kaine just made Mark Warner look a whole lot better."
Published on February 1, 2006 By Dr Guy In Politics

Now you know why I admire, if I dont agree with, Mark Warner!  And to think Newt saw the same thing!  Yes, Mark Warner will get credit for electing a Ted Matthews!  So his star is rising in the Democrat party (and compared to Mark Warner, Tim Kaine is no Mark Warner!).

Ironic, and I think perhaps a few liberals, while spitting and gargling with listerine, will agree with Newt Gingrich!

4 more years!  Oy vey!

I don't know about this one Guy. Newt was fawning all over Tim Kaine's speech (the official Democratic response to the State of the Union address), which I found too repetitive (There's a better way), and which was delivered -- in my humble opinion -- way too haphazardly.

As one friend noted here, you have that "Mister Spock" raised eyebrow distraction from Kaine, and ignoring that, his delivery was off in timing. He seemed to be overrunning the prompter, and setting the pacing of his speech off. Once second he was speaking quickly, the next he was dragging out his sentences.

I found his delivery too distracting to really get to the message beneath it.

I suggested to co-workers and friends that the delivery should have come Mark Warner. The response that was given was in many ways meant as a boost to him, since he supposedly had started Virginia on "the better way." Of course he's not a current office holder, and having him give the response would have been a huge slap at John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, and the others that want to be the next Pres. Not that giving the task to Kaine wasn't a slap at them anyway, but at least he's a current office holder in a "red state" that has elected a blue governor in each of the last governor's races there.

Of course Kaine got to give that response before he really finds out if he can ram a bunch of tax hikes down the throats of all Virginians to pay for the road programs he proposed during the election cycle. He may have a very tough time getting the legislature in Virginia to go along with those proposals, since most card carrying conservatives are loath to raise taxes. Especially given the scam Warner pulled to get the last round of "dire emergency in the financial house of the state of Virginia" passed. After all was said and done, what was supposed to have been a very necessary tax proposal lead to a big surplus in the state coffers there.

I could be wrong, but I really think Kaine's speech won't help anyone -- Warner, Kaine, the Democrats in the U.S. congress, etc.

And as to why Newt was heaping praise on the content of the speech delivered by Kaine, eh, I don't know. Perhaps he read the response rather than watched Kaine deliver it. Or perhaps Newt was just trying to stir up the Republican base by calling Kaine's response a good speech. Again, hard to say.

I gather you missed the reference to Ted Matthews.  No matter.  I may have been first, but I am definitely not last!  More to follow.

It was Mark Warner's star BTW.
