Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Maryland recently passed a bill to "get Wal-Mart" over the veto of the governor.  And they will.  But in so doing, they have shot themselves instead.  Wal-Mart does not have to pay the piper if the piper is trying extortion.

The Linked article is an editorial but one by a distinguished professor at John Hopkins.  And it says exactly what I have been saying.  Sure now the legislatures of Maryland can go and pat themselves on the back and suck up some more Union Money.  But what about the real people of Sommerset?  Those who would have benefitted from having a new distribution center in their county?  Gone now are the 800 jobs, and as the Steves point out, the upstream jobs.  This for a county on par with the worst in Appalachia.

And for what?  How does this stupid law help them?  Simply, it does not.

People are yelling out outsourcing, yet here Wal Mart will outsource to another state due to confiscatory laws.  And the jobs outsourced to India and China?  We did it to ourselves.

The Law of Suppy and Demand may not be palatable, and we can hate it all we want.  But it will not be denied.  So when you decide to jack up labor prices here, the demand will seek out lower cost alternatives.

The cause of outsourcing is not Republican policies.  It is the feel good - accomplish nothing - policies of the liberals.  Keep it up and we will have a nation of have nots, but at least they could have a great pay and benefit package if they got a job.

Whatever else this may be, Dr. Guy, it is not a case of anybody LITERALLY shooting their mouth off. That would be hideous.

It's sad to see people doing everything they can do to change something, when they don't understand what the outcome will be. Just think what would happen if people could travel through time to change events, what a mess that would be, especially if they were liberal. *wink wink*.

Ok!  I just took my son to see Hostel.  So my metaphors are a bit extreme in this case.  Not literally, but definitely in practice.

It comes down to the cliche "the road to hell is paved with best of intentions".  We elect people to look after our interests. yet instead they are beholden to other interests and dont think.

The saddest part is they 'thought' they were going to stick it to a bad guy.  Instead they stuck it to their own constituents.  And the worst part is they probably will never understand it.

What a shame. The sad truth is, it's actions like these that are quickly driving US jobs overseas, where they're less likely to face such restrictions.
