Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

One has to wonder if Massachusetts is sucking the brains out of its senators.  Already, 3 democrat senators have stated they will vote for Alito.  With 55 republicans, that makes 58, and 2 or 3 more are likely given this is an election year, and there are several red state democrats up for re-election.  So why are Kerry and Kennedy trying to pull this stunt?  Kerry has been relatively silent on any reasons as he really is just a SINO.  But Kennedy has been very vocal on slandering and lying about Alito.  Even tho his own closet is full of Skeletons (except for Mary Jo Kopechne's - that one is at the bottom of a river).

But if they want to try to attempt this, they are playing in to the hands of the conservative wing of the republicans.  Why?  Because the Nuclear option is still on the table (albeit that seemed to be a remote possibility as of late).

If the Nuclear option is invoked, and should the democrats pick up a few senate seats in November, then they have effectively given Bush a carte Blanche for any SCOTUS nominees for the last 2 years of his term.  For no longer will a filibuster work, just a simple majority.  And since the democrats might (latest gleeful estimates say 3) be down only 52-48, it is clear that at least 3 republicans would not vote for the nuclear option after that, the threat to invoke it only lasts as long as the republicans have more than 50 solid votes.  As they do now.

But instead, Kerry and Kennedy are going to try to invoke it now, so that any future nominee (which is not a bad idea) gets a straight up or down vote.  period.  So while they may puff their breasts up like a strutting rooster, they are ultimately killing their ability to affect policy in one area of the 3 branches of government.

It all appears to be a dog and pony show to appease the base.  The base that for the last 5 years has had but one agenda.  Hate Bush.

Most sane people know that beating your head against a brick wall is futile, and will stop and try a different tack after a certain amount of time.  Not so the liberal base.  Indeed they have grown even more virulent in that endeavor and think that with enough head butting they will break that brick wall.  So they push their leaders to do some of the stupidest things, all in the name of appeasing the base.

It would be sad if it was not so predictable and beneficial to the nation at large.  For while the fringe 20% can get their jollies, the right 20% plus the moderate 15% plus the middle 30% see it for what it is.  idiocy.  Even the moderate left 15% see it as stupidity, but they appear to be powerless to stop the fringe of their side.

It is also a shame that the very people praising Sandra Day O'Connor are the very ones that are abusing her as well.  She has served a long and honorable term on the Supreme court, and just wants to retire and relax.  And they are denying her that request with their piquancy.

But that is what radicals are all about.  They speak with forked tongue and do not deliver on their promises, unless the promise is hate and bile.

They soon shall know what the cliché "Live by the sword, Die by the Sword' truly means.  maybe they should just try Hari Kiri.  At least the rest of us would be spared their stupidity.

Apparently Kennedy left the best part of his brain floating around with the other bottom feeders in the Chappaquiddick, and of course Kerry had a bunch of rice impale where he keeps his brain. ;~D

So you are saying it is not the state, but external factors that make them the stupidest senators?  Hmmm.  I will have to think on that one, but that is an intriguing hypothesis!

What base? The majority of the democrats are against Alito but it's only the radical fringe that is calling for a filibuster. Kerry has no credibility. After all, he couldn't even beat Bush in the presidential election! How sorry is that!

Bush had overwhelming support from democrats after 9/11 but instead of using that for good, he used it to push his political agenda. The republicans created the extreme partisan situation in Washington. Anybody who even casually kept up with the news would be able to see that. (the non-partisan news, that is.)

That is such a contradiction in itself I had to highlight it!  The "majority".  Show me the poll.  "only the radical fringe"?  Ok, why are you dancing to their tune?  "kerry is a loser"?  So why do you let him represent you?

As for your last paragraph, that is just pure and simple stupidity.

When I heard about the move for a filibuster I just had to say "GAH!". It is a bonehead move, and I disagree with it strongly.

Of course, the nuclear option in the long term hurts both parties, so I don't think it should be on the table either.

Yes it does.  And you GAH is well deserved. For in the short term it kills the democrats.  In the long term, it may hurt the republicans. But who is forcing it?

Drunken ted needs to check into rehab, hanoijohn should stay where he is. Typically not in the capitol building/

I asked for an outside opinion about drunken ted but sadly Mary Jo Kopechne is not available for comment.

I always enjoyed Mr. Smith Goes to Washington; filibusters add drama to a boring Senate. Besides, it is on behalf of all women who lost their "quota."

As I said other times, this is a stunt. It's just like the vote for funding the troops before the last election. They knew it would pass, and they know Alito is going in. The Senators who will try and block it will always be the ones who will politically benefit from making a hairbrained liberal statement.

They need to do what is best while at the same time appeasing their wacko extremist donors. This way Dems can be seen to be opposing it, and 90% of them who live in places that aren't wacko can be seen as going with the flow.

If the Democratic party didn't want Alito in, they'd make it known. They have all all their Congressmen by the purse strings. This isn't a real effort, this is just something to put on a bullet list one a couple of hyper-Liberal member's next campaign fliers.

***************Caution: Insane Conspiracy Theory to follow*************

They are going to filibuster specifically because they want the nuclear option to be invoked in order to remove some of the checks and balances from the government. In this way, they will chip away at the democratic leanings of the government, and head towards a more dictatorial style. All their posturing has been to serve only one cause, overthrow the country and allow for a fully controlled society and planned economy.

Hmm, now that I think about it, it doesn't sound all that insane really...

No, Hanoi John needs to get a life!  Apparently Theresa does not want anything to do with him any longer (whichs begs the question what did she have to do with him in the first place)

Well, the king of Inanity likes your reason!  At least it is a reason.  Even if it is self defeating.

I think they have made it know they do not want Alito. For no other reason than they do not agree with him. The rhetoric is simply lies for the press to suck up.  If it is not a real effort, then we should expose it as such and show that they are just emotional cripples that are wasting their mandate of representing us. (welll some of us).

Someone needs to get more sleep!  It still sounds insane!  Trust me, would I lie?

I dunno; previously I would have said no, but a line like that make's you rather suspect.
