Resolved: That the Federal Government should compel the state of Alabama to grant equal educational opportunities to Negroes
Published on January 23, 2006 By Dr Guy In Politics

Sometimes words speak louder than actions.  During the past few weeks we have been regaled on how Alito was a racist, sexist bigot who would turn back the hard fought and won rights of women and minorities.  His Proof?  That Alito belonged to a club back in college that fought against affirmative action at Princeton (note, it did not fight against their admission, just granting them a special privilege).

Now comes the facts that Kennedy himself once argued for segregation!

Resolved: That the Federal Government should compel the state of Alabama to grant equal educational opportunities to Negroes

Eliot's debaters, Franklin P. Bennett, Jr. '57, Huston J. Banton '57, and Ira B. Shepard '58 lost to the Winthrop negative, composed of Paul F. Beatty '56, William E. Crosby '56, and Edward M. Kennedy '56.

Seems Kennedy is living in a glass house, and he just put a rock through his window.

Too bad his reelection can't be blocked based on those grounds. Opponents of Teddy Kennedy would have more leg to stand on than those who oppose Alito's appointment.

It just demonstrates the stupidity of the excuses that the left makes against all conservatives!  We all did stupid stuff back in high school and college.  Anyone saying they never did, is not human.

Which is why people don't run for office, at least not anything that was visible on radar. Today's atmosphere of media scrutiny would destroy any chance you'd have of being elected. Even of they couldn't find anything on you, the media or your opponent would make it up.

Remember, it's not about truth, it's about the seriousness of the allegations!

LOL, for a moment I was about to say I never did but then I remembered my prom night. I went to a clue in New York called Limelight, we all thought is was the best place to be at on prom night after prom. Boy were we wrong. The dam place was made out of an old church, had all the weirdest people in the world (lots of gays lesbians and just plain cracked people), people have sex as if no one would notice, and what I thought was smoke from the smoke machines was actually pot all over the air, first time I ever came close to actually using drugs and getting high. I walked home from the train station the next morning coming back from the club. It was about a 1 hour walk, after partying all night.

Back on topic, that just goes to show that people will do anything to oppose Bush and his administration. How can I be convinced to follow such a party when all they do is point at the bad things of the other party, being hypocrits about their own people, and not saying how to fix things.

That's like saying "vote for me, I have no idea how to fix the problems, but all they do is make things worse".

Oops, dam double post.

Unfortunate and true.  What I did in those days helped make me what I am today, but it in no way defines who I am.  I would not care if you were a closet communist as a student.  Unless you are still one, it makes no difference.

That is pretty much what the democrats have been saying for 5 years!

And what of Kennedy's own membership to The Owl Club??

Nevermind... different Kennedy. Then again... in my mind they're all the same. Ah, well.

A long ago testosterone thing.  That should not be held against him.  And would not be if he had not brought up the issue.

The window was open when Kennedy threw that rock.

This was the subject by some debate teams of which he was on one. Pro or con does not determine which side you will debate. Many times you will debate that which is contrary to your belief. It is a non issue.

he closed it with his accusations against Alito.  It was purely guilt by association.  And if you can be guilty for associating with a club, then you can be guilty for debating for segregation.

Guilt by association doesn't hold for Kennedy here. A debate team doesn't get to choose sides in a contest.

But you are most welcome to throw Chappaquidick at him.

nah!  I will pass on Chappaquidick.  But like Alito, he was free to turn it down (the debate).  My point here is I dont think kennedy ever believed in Segregation. But by Kennedy's rules, he is guilty of that belief.  I was just trying to show the stupidity of his arguments.

If you are talking of Sheets Byrd, I would say about 100%!
