"Anyone who can't see that Las Vegas is a high-risk area doesn't deserve to serve in a position like that," Reid said.

"We had more visitors on New Year's Eve than they had in Times Square and we're not a high-risk area? For heaven's sakes."

Answer: Harry Reid.  Senator from Nevada.

So do you contact him about this?

yea try!  Here is his site: http://reid.senate.gov/email_form.cfm

So as I say, not as I do!

I think Reid has a point.

Think about it:

Vegas has large crowds, including a rapidly-growing number of families with children.

It's an engine of commerce in the region.

It occupies a special place in the American psyche.

It's highly symbolic of the decadence and depravity of western culture.

Were I a terrorist, I'd put it on my target list just for the tourist-crowd death toll potential alone. Add to that the powerful psychological impact on the American people caused by a mass-murder in Vegas, the symbolic value of kicking the Great Satan right in its decadent nutsack, and the economic impact of the thing, and the only thing stopping me from sending in the suicide bombers tomorrow would be the assumption that its value as a target is so obvious the American authorities must have take precautions already, so why bother.

So please, Dr. Guy, do us all a favor: Let Reid do whatever he thinks is necessary.

Instead, go to work on Boxer and Feinstein, who let their own state's San Diego, home of the Pacific Fleet, get little or no DHS funding at all.

You missed the point.  I do not deny that Vegas is a top terrorist target.  But as the senior senator, dont you think he should be doing something about it?  If he is going to talk the talk, then he should be walk the walk.  Right now, there is no walk.

Maybe Reid is trying to bring the terrorists to Las Vegas!

I remember when Vegas was in al Qaeda's crosshairs, that the Mayor, Oscar Goodman, said that he would welcome an al Qaeda convention (because conventions are always welcome in Vegas) but not any violence. I wish I could find the link... that is pure self-serving asshattery.

I got that much, I'm just not sure what it is that you want Reid to be doing.

Or just squawk since his constituents are about to toss his sorry butt.

How about a plan of action?  Why should we listen to him if all he is going to do is demigogue?  If there is a real threat (and there is), where is his contigency plan?  How about allowing his constituency to have a say and suggest some things?  (did you read the categories of his form letter on his site?)
