Recently we had someone, in the heat of debate, deride the US Military as a bunch of ignorant in-brreds with less IQ than teeth. That person pretty much was slammed down by both the left and right citizens of JU.
We have a fair number of serving military and Vets here on JU. SO I would say that JU has a pretty good cross section of the Military. No one would say that Adrian is Conservative, and others like Greywar are definitely not liberal.
Last weekend, my wife and I took my son to see a movie. As is the usual procedure, she went to get the popcorn, while I bought the drinks. My line was shorter, so I joined her. She was talking to a man, who said he was a US Marshal, and Vet. And he was fluent in Spanish and Russian!
That got me to thinking of all the Military here on JU and what they know! And I am very much impressed! The langauages run the gamut from the normal (Spanish - French), to the exotic (Korena, Farsi, Chinese). Ands the skills are as equally impressive!
That is not to say they popped out of the womb speaking these languages and skills, and most have clearly stated that they learned them in the Military. But that in itself says a lot. Since going to a language immersion class is not for 'dummies'!
It is evident that the "dumb grunt" days of the US military are far past. Today, almost without exception, GIs are learning skills and talents above and beyond how to field strip an M1. And that takes intelligence to learn!
I am truly impressed with today's military and the Veterans thereof. And it makes me proud that so many smart people are volunteering to serve their countries first, instead of making a milion bucks on the open market.
Well done.
