New Orleans Children
Published on October 13, 2005 By Dr Guy In Current Events

The local news had a story today.  44 of the 45 New Orleans children that have registered in the schools here are staying.  At least for the year.  They have been accepted and are doing well in their new schools.  And they are staying until the year is out (mid june here).  And that is good.

Or is it?  Even the worst prognostications indicate Mardi Gras will happen, New Orleans will be back in business shortly.  The only thing they lack is people.

Before answering that question, think of who you are talking about.  Not a parent who bought a house in the wrong place.  Not a welfare mother that had no means to flea the flooding.  Children.

A year in the life of a child is a very long time.  Many of these people lost everythng and have nothing to go back to.

I wonder how many will return.  And if not many do, is that necessarily a bad thing?  Perhaps now is the time to stop the politics and really clean up the city.  People wise!  Get rid of the waste of humanity that has run that place for the last 100 years!  Get some fresh faces in there that want to help the people first and skim graft last.

Perhaps now, New Orleans can really be cleaned up.  And these children displaced by Katrina?

they will be back.  You never forget your roots.  but now they have a taste of honesty and integrity.  And maybe when they come back, they will make sure the bottom suckers never get control again.

That means you too Blanco.  Your constituency is gone.  Prepare for honest citizens now.

Getting to this late....what can I say...the computer is in the laundry room because this is where I spend so much time...and when I do the laundry I check JU....

I hope you're right. I was in New Orleans once and while I enjoyed it I couldn't help but feel the weight of the poverty surrounding me.

While in the French quarter with a gal pal we saw two fist fights AND a group of tourists turn on street performers who were demanding payment instead of playing for it....pay before we play kinda thing. Then we watched a guy beat out the window of a car...don't know why, but it was fairly entertaining....and this was all within three hours and NOT at night and NOT during Mardi Gras.

I wouldn't want to live there, no matter how strong the levy.

I can imagine most of the really poor who go back will just move right back into the mess the flood left.....black mold and all. Yuk.

I wouldn't want to live there, no matter how strong the levy.

After seeing what life is in the other 49 states, I think many may not.  Only the strongest will.  And that is not necessarily bad.
