Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

In another example of a nation undergoing the same problems as the US (Moderateman just wrote yesterday about Mexico's border problems), Spain has joined the list of sought after havens.  It seems that Africans from destitute countries are literally dying to get into Spain.  They see entry into Spain as the stepping stone into Europe, and hence to a better life.

Unlike America (and I gather Mexico), the Spanish Border Guards are not averse to use deadly force as last week, 2 wannabee immigrants were shot and killed trying to scale the fences into Spain.  While both Morocco and Spain are investigating the incident, it does not appear (from the article at least) that it is a question of too much force, only a question on the actual circumstances surrounding the shooting.

I am not going to use this platform or any platform to chastize the Spanish.  While in a perfect world, borders would be mere delineations between political jurisdictions, in the real world, Borders provide a much more critical and important role.  To delineate who is going to be offered both physical and social protection from the ravages of life.  And in that definition, a country not only has the right to defend its borders, it has an obligation to all its citizens to do just that.

It is saw that these Africans are Starving.  It is sad they have no future in their home countries.  But while we should, out of charity, try to help them, the anarchy and despotism of the African Regimes prevent that charity from being effectively distributed.  The Crises of Africa is of its own making, and only Africa can eventually create the atmosphere that will allow it to be corrected.

I was going to ask if this took place in Ceuta. Apparently it was Melilla. These two cities are actually on the African continent sticking out from Morocco. The Spanish have fortified the borders pretty well there. It's something that should be done on the American-Mexican border.

The Article did not state that, but it is kind of obvious as I doubt that any africans could have walked across the straights of Gibraltar.
