Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Well, the grey old lady is at it again.  In an attempt to slant the news that is not fit to print, the NY Times opines, in a supposed news article, that the US is out to get the poor little guy:

The men (Ehab Elmaghraby and Javaid Iqbal), who eventually pleaded guilty to minor criminal charges unrelated to terrorism and were deported, charged that they were repeatedly slammed into walls and dragged across the floor while shackled and manacled.

The article was purportedly about their mistreatment while in the hands of the justice department, post 9-11.

Minor criminal charges?  What could that be?  Jaywalking?  Littering?  Public intoxication?

No, fortunately as the AP points out the charges and convictions were for (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050929/ap_on_re_us/attacks_detainees ):

Elmaghraby and Iqbal were deported to their home countries after serving time for charges unrelated to terrorism — Elmaghraby for a counterfeiting charge and Iqbal for fraud.

Counterfeiting and Fraud are MINOR criminal charges?  What the hell is a major criminal charge to the NY Times?  Being a conservative?

I sometimes wonder why I even bother to peruse that rag at all any longer.  They cant report the truth, and when they try to report the facts, they slant it so badly that it makes it almost worthless.

Actually, the only real shock from the NY Times Article was that they did not make the story page 1 and call the 2 convicts "Peace loving' and Innocent.

The NYT has been proven many times to be on of the most biased newspapers in the country. Isn't the NYT's is where col gets his "facts"?

My experience is the legal system tends to look at Fraud, embezzlement, conversion, and other bloodless crimes as minor.....a previous employee was CONVICTED of a class H felony embezzlement ( exceeding 100K ) ...his punishment-
4 hours in jail, 60 days house arrest, 5 years supervised probation, and restitution of 250.00 per month for the state max of 60 months....( he got me for 250K, try making that math work )

Net result - crime pays! I did a State background before hiring, it was clean, upon his initial arrest we found New Jersey records where he had just completed probation for similar charges.

My lawyer says I can't even call his new employer to warn him, would violate the thiefs rights to privacy......

So it goes.........

Col may gets some stuff from there, but 'facts' is not one of them.

I would suggest Penicillian for his recent acquisitions.

Most people look at a misdemeanor as Minor.  Felonies are not minor.

Just for your information Doc... the New York Times has one of the most reliable Obituary Pages of all the newpapers in New York.
I have never found them to lie about someones death there.
Give credit where it is due... after all, you are one of the fairest guys here.

Another thing.... this thread reminds me of something from years ago.... there used to be billboards posted in New York City subway stations.... a photo of a secretary, labourer, etc... with the caption..."I got my job through the New York Times"....
Someone had a bunch printed with Fidel Castros' photo on it... with the same caption.... it was really funny.

They seemed embarassed at the time that they endorsed Fidels' new government long before it was known that he was a communist... you would think they would have learnt from that experience....

Old dogs and new tricks.  Seems they were an old dog 45 years ago.

the new york times has pretty much lost all credibility with the recent scandles and the way they tilt the news to the left.

I know that, you know that, every honest person knows that.  But how many liberals will admit it?
