A large debate is raging across JU right now about Child Protective Services (CPS). Gideon is going to fight them, and I for one fully support him. Altho he is taking a risk that they will take his fight and get vindictive (always a fear with you are dealing with people trying to perform a 'good deed' with 'the best of intentions'), he feels it is necessary, and so do I. Why?

I will leave the reason to Martin Niemoller:

In Germany, they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Someone has to stand up to these 21st century Nazis. If we all just keep bending over and accepting their gestapo tactics, then we all lose.

EXACTLY! I keep saying this....prove your innocence, THEN fight the consitiutionality of it.

Part of the problem, dharma, is the way our legal system works. If I give them carte blanche to search my house VOLUNTARILY, I have very little basis for appeal. This means I must rely on the justices of THIS county to enforce the law.

I HAVE to fight the constitutionality of this so that I can continue this fight BEYOND this county. I just wish you understood that.

And, as for "throwing my kids in front of a bulldozer" (an accusation I resent, thank you very much), the fact is, if I had no children, there would be no basis for CPS to investigate us...so I would have to throw someone ELSE'S children in front of that bulldozer. I don't think anyone else will volunteer for that duty.

To tell you the truth, this is a fight I'd rather not fight. But if I don't fight this fight, I really should shut down my blog, completely remove myself from political activism, and become a hermit. Because everything I have said and done for the last twenty years becomes a lie.

I am generally suspicious of government interference in the home and CPS ranks pretty highly up there.
