Here are 2 headlines from that AP:

"A 13-year-old giant panda gave birth to a cub at San Diego Zoo, but a second baby died in the womb, officials said Wednesday."--Associated Press, Aug. 3

"A cancer-ravaged woman robbed of consciousness by a stroke has given birth after being kept on life support for three months to give her fetus extra time to develop."--Associated Press, Aug. 3

Note both are from the same day. Also note that an unborn panda is a baby, but a child born to a brain dead woman is still a fetus.

Split it anyway you want, but dont say she gave birth to a fetus. She gave birth to a baby and calling it a fetus is the PC way of saying "We wont piss off NARAL".

Nowhere did it say anything about anyone giving birth to a fetus.

My ex miscarried a BABY, my BABY, at 3.5 months. Trust me, it was not a fetus.

Im sorry, I can't imagine what that must have been like to go through...I agree with you on the point that I personally would use the word "baby" regardless...I just think there's more than one way to read the headline you quoted...and the way I'm seeing it, I don't think the term fetus is misused.

go to google news and search for the keyword phrase: panda baby dies in womb and you'll see the top (and possibly only publication) that appears is THE CONSERVATIVE VOICE

No, you are! The fetus was re-absorbed? Guess the Human Fetus was more developed than the Panda Fetus (as you just proved). But one is called a baby, the other a 'fetus'.

If you abort a baby, fetus is acceptable. if a baby is born, why not call it a baby? Afraid to?

Fetus was used in reference to the time 3 months ago when the baby needed more time to develop. The word fetus was used in reference to a time before the baby had been born.

Babies are conceived, not Fetuses

a perfect example of abyssmal ignorance.

next you'll be telling me you can see little faces on sperm cells if you look at em thru a microscope.

conception is the process by which a sperm cell fertilizes an egg and and a zygote is formed. once the zygote attaches to the endometrium and cells begin to divide it becomes an embryo. eight weeks later the embryo becomes a fetus. every baby is a fetus til it's able to survive outside the womb.

The baby had been born and they were still calling it a fetus. Typical NARAL and MSM hypocrisy. They cant even stand to admit that some people dont want to abort a BABY.

good to know dr frist aint the only one who can diagnose atta distance.

i don't know where you got your medical degree...but they oughta be investigated.

all babies were once feti. all babies were conceived. therefore all feti were conceived.

Let's say that it's five years down the road, and some newspaper is doing a follow up article. In the article, the sentence "the baby was born to a comatose mother" appears. Will you be calling the paper out for inaccurately referring to the now 5-year-old child as a baby?

And I did not diagnose anything. I merely extrapolated from the facts you presented. You can refute the facts you presented, or you can affirm them. That is your choice.

While as inaccurate as the headlines cited, it is much less of a controversy. For it is still a life. They just try to cheapen it by trying to call it a fetus, when in fact it was indeed and is a baby. There is a time to drop your blinders even if you agree with pro choice.

Extremism never furthered a cause, it just placates the current believers.
