Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.
DC is Liberal. Richmond is Conservative.

Terpfan recently published an ariticle where a conservative talk show host had been suspended for calling the war on terror, a war on Islam.  Ok, that is going a bit overboard, and I would call Bush, Cheney, Kerry or Ried to task if they did it.  But Talk shows have more latitude in that respect, and I agree with that latitiude.

Except.

NOt in a liberal Mecca.

Ok, hands up.  WHO is going to argue that DC is NOT a liberal establishment?  To a lesser degree, who is going to argue that RICHMOND, VA (former capital of the confederacy) is NOT a conservative establishment?  Have your facts handy in both cases as you got a lot of digging to do to convince anyone this side of du.org of the contrary on either point.

Ok, so DC suspends this guy for saying war on Islam.  It is his opinion, and not widely shared.  I dont see a problem with that.  I may not agree, but it is not really that inflamatory.

Ok, here in Richmond, the replacement for Michael Graham (the DC guy) plays Hitler speeches and says they are Pope Benedict XVI's early statements (it is clear who the speaker is).  He says he was "just joshing" and doe snot even get a slap on the wrist.  He clearly pissed off most of his viewers, but no penalty.  Ne never appologized either.

One person goes anti-Islam - he is ostracized.

One person goes anti-Catholicism - he is given a free ride.

Now, who among you is going to argue that there is NOT an anti-Christian (with emphasis on Catholic) bias in the this country?

I will leave this open to anon posters as I dont think any JU posters are that stupid.

Shame Liberal leadership cant debate the facts.

Certainly there are people in the West that are anti-Christian. Although, if you ignore the un-PC ness of the anti-Pope comments, they are kinda funny. I laugh at South Park too, and that's very un-PC in the opposite direction. There are many examples of people getting away with saying things because they used humour. That's why the Great Wall of China was never painted. It's also probably why South Park and this guy still get away with it.

I was not one calling for the clowns firing when he did the Hitler gig.  And I do not find it funny.  I find it as funny as blacks do blackface.  Isnt that funny in an un-PC way?  Want to tell them to lighten up?

I'm Catholic, and I thought it was mildly amusing. You've got to agree though, Dr Guy, our new pope is fairly humourless. He's practically begging to be ridiculed, particularly considering his slightly dubious past. And if the worst he's ever slammed is in a comedy show for once being a member of a Nazi affiliate (like most Germans of his age and class) then the Catholic Church will have had an easy run of it.

Plus there's the simple fact it almost never pays to punish comedians for their jokes, because generally everyone'd rather they keep making them. Talk show hosts are an entirely different matter. They publicly mean what they say. Comedians always have the ambiguity of playing for laughs to fall back on. Kind of why the court jester was often the only person allowed to criticise the kings in the olden days.

Now if conservative criticism of lefties was actually funny, then you might see them getting away with it too. But usually righty comedians relies on tired stereotypes without originality or outrage to be funny, and the mainstream is over that.
