Recently, there has been some discussion on what John Fitzgerald Kennedy would say on today's political situation. Due to his assassination, in many circles he has assumed a mythical stature, that may or may not have held up under closer scutiny if he had not been killed. So on the anniversary of his 88 birthday (close enough), I present some Kennedy Quotes. Your job, Mr. Phelps, should you choose to accept it, is to see if they sound like you, or like your opposition:
We stand for freedom. That is our conviction for ourselves; that is our only commitment to others.
Hands down, Conservatives. Liberals hate the fact we freed 50 million people.
All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin. And therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words "Ich bin ein Berliner!"
Conservatives again. Liberals already call conservatives facists and Nazis, and we know where the real ones capital was.
Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.
I would say Liberals on that one, but they cant forgive anyone.
The American, by nature, is optimistic. He is experimental, an inventor and a builder who builds best when called upon to build greatly.
Got to go with Conservative again. I have not seen any optomistic articles out of the left in quite some time.
Liberty without learning is always in peril; learning without liberty is always in vain.
Hmm, this is a good one. I can see both for this one. The second half would tend to lean towards those less Politically correct (which would make it an anethma to liberals), but YMMV.
There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction
Conservatives. Just check out the Social security non-debate.
A man does what he must-in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures-and that is the basis of all human morality.
Conservatives again, as exemplified by Bush's doing what he believes and not what polls tell him to do.
For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.
That would tend to indicate Liberals, but they have not changed thier tune in the past 5 years, so perhaps they are still looking back to the Clinton years. Moveon sure is. But conservatives are as guilty with the Reagan years, so I rate this one a toss up.
A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
I would class that one as apolitical. He did not say what kind of ideas. So even bad ones do live on.
History is a relentless master. It has no present, only the past rushing into the future. To try to hold fast is to be swept aside.
I would say he is talking about today's liberals, but not in a flattering light. Point, conservatives.
I know there is a God - I see the storm coming and I see his hand in it - if he has a place then I am ready - we see the hand.
Conservatives. Liberals are not allowed to talk about God in public.
I look forward to a great future for America - a future in which our country will match its military strength with our moral restraint, its wealth with our wisdom, its power with our purpose.
Conservatives. Liberals hate American Power and any projection of it.
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.
Conservatives. Liberals are too conserned with pleasing Europeans than wondering who wishes us well or ill.
Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan.
Not really either. Just a profound one.
And so, my fellow Americans... ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
Conservatives. Libearals are always asking what the government can do for you, without regard as to what you should be doing for your country.
So all in all, a couple of toss ups, but an overwhelming victory for conservatives.
If JFK were alive today, I think he would be ashamed of his old party.
