Ghost of Rather still roams the halls

There has been a big hullabaloo lately whereby several democrats feel that Ken Starr has rehabilitated himself by repudiating the Senate Nuclear Option.  In an interview with CBS, Ken Starr said:

This is a radical, radical departure from our history and from our traditions, and it amounts to an assault on the judicial branch of government. It may prove to have the kind of long-term boomerang effect, damage on the institution of the Senate that thoughtful senators may come to regret.

According to CBS' Gloria Borger, that response was in answer to what he thought about the nuclear option.

WOW!  Sounds like he really was laying it on against the wascally republicans!  Even Harry Reid, the minority minded senate 'mis-leader' even praised and quoted Ken Starr on this in his attempts to side track the Nuclear Option.  And if that were all it was, this would not be written.

But a Funny thing happened on the way to the print room.  Apparently, in another exhibition of Journalistic integrity, CBS refuses to release the transcripts of the interview.  And for good reason.  For as Ken Starr himself now says, CBS is guilty of journalistic fraud.  Ken Starr has issued a clarification of how the statement came to be:

"The 'radical departure from our history' snippet was specifically addressed to the practice of invoking judicial philosophy as a grounds for voting against a qualified nominee of integrity and experience. I said in sharp language that that practice was wrong. I contrasted the current practice and that employed viciously against your father with what occurred with what occurred during Ruth Ginsburg's nomination process as numerous Republicans voted, rightly, to confirm a former ACLU staff worker. They disagreed with her positions as a lawyer but they voted -- again rightly -- to confirm her."

So Ken Starr was not talking about the Nuclear option, he was talking about voting against judges based upon their beliefs, not their qualifications!  Something the Dumocrats are trying to protect by disenfranchising 55% of the citizens of America!

A smart person, after getting being outed for lack of journalistic integrity, would make sure to dot their eyes and cross their tees to ensure it did not happen again.  Apparently, intelligence is not in residence at CBS as again they are shown to be criminally negligent in the reporting of the news.

The truth is, they dont report news.  They are trying to make it.  And the next news they may be making is in front of a judge.

By Refusing to release the transcripts, CBS is hoping to make this a "my word vs His Word" type of arguement, and indeed it is.  But who would you believe?  Someone who is hiding evidence, or someone trying to make the evidence public?  I guess for some loony loopy luddite liberals, anything Ken Starr says must be a lie.

But then who are the to believe?  If CBS is right, then they must beleive that Ken Starr was talking about the nuclear option, and they have to think he was lying, so they must be against the nuclear option!

Politics makes for stange contortions!

Maybe you want the news reported, not made.
