We have all been regaled with the antics going on over at the democratunderground.org. To say they are representative of the loony loopy luddite left is an understatement. To find a sane rational person on that site is a feat in and of itself.
Yet apparently some do exist. And one of them is the wife of John Edwards, former candidate for the vice presidents office. To her Credit she joined a discussion on Laura Ingram and her fight with Breast Cancer. Having been the victim of this disease as well, she asked those to pray for Laura as democrats were supposed to be the party of compassion.
I have been a Democrat for a long time, and part of the Democratic principles that attracted me as a young person and kept me a Democrat all these years is our compassion. Democrats are simply good and decent people. And good and decent people want everyone to do well--those who agree with them and those who do not. We fight for the right of voices with which we disagree to speak out, for the right of people to say things we don't believe to be true, even for the right to be malicious and mean-spirited. If we fight for the right for LI to say what she says, how in the world can we use our disagreement with those words as an excuse not to be compassionate in her fight with cancer. Being willing to have her voice muted by illness is the same thing as not wanting her voice to be heard. It is not Democratic or democratic.
That speaks very well for the almost second lady and for democrats in general. Makes one want to give the loons a second chance, until you read some of the other replies:
They have caused too much pain to others.
On the other hand, perhaps I will do a bit of praying.
Yes, that she share, appropriately, the wing of Hell populated by Hitler's lower managmement, radio personalities, and writers from the Ministry of Propaganda.
Which is where her soul belongs in the Afterlife.
Excuse me, I have some praying to do.
And of course the epitomy of compassion:
She Probably Gave it to Herself...All that Hate, Lies, Anger...
It is so nice to see so much compassion coming from the loony loopy luddite left, isn't it? I would hope Laura Ingram well in her fight, and would advise Ms. Edwards to run, not walk away from the party of hate and contempt.
The real party of Compassion has a big tent, and welcomes even former misguided candidates and their wives and prays for all people who get sick.
It seems Ms. Edwards is more republican than democrat in this matter.
