As part of the latest energy bill, congress is looking to extend Daylight Savings Time.  While I am not particulary in favor of that, I definitely have a problem with the following statement:

Lawmakers crafting energy legislation approved an amendment Wednesday to extend daylight-saving time by two months, having it start on the first Sunday in March and end on the last Sunday in November.

Ok, can anyone see the problem?  It jumped out at me like a sore thumb!

have at it!

Oh, and pros and con statements to the proposal are also welcome.

Going that early and that late, to me, negates the energy saving benefits as you end up with very short days on either end still. You're not actually shifting the day to get sunlight earlier at that point.

Also, that leaves three months to Standard Time. Why not just abolish the whole time shift completely?

Good comment.  And well taken.  But not the problem I have with that statement.

BTW:  I agree with you.

I think that they should just stick with standard time.  I rather have the light in the morning than the evening.

By the time they are done messing with our time, I'll have no idea how to calculate the time for other countries.

I want to start lobbying to get rid of it in Michigan......

AZ and IN (a neighbor of yours) dont follow it. I am with you. I get up between 5 and 6 anyway. But as long as you have a computer, most stuff is noted in GMT (not JU tho which is CST and CDT).

Why don't we just stay on standard time. This is getting ridiculous. We are not gaining anymore daylight time by changing the clocks. It's wonderful having daylight early in the morning, just get up and enjoy it then. I don't see that it is saving energy by having daylight extended in the evening. There are many people that have to be up early in the morning to go to work. If it is dark in the morning they are using the electricity that you think you ae saving at night.
