During the MoveOn.Org "We Bought and Paid for you, now you dance to our tune" rally for Democrats, Barbara Boxer, admittedly the stupidest member of the Senate, said the following:
Why would we give lifetime appointments to people who earn up to $200,000 a year, with absolutely a great retirement system, and all the things all Americans wish for, with absolutely no check and balance except that one confirmation vote? So we're saying we think you ought to get nine votes over the 51 required. That isn't too much to ask for such a superimportant position. There ought to be a super vote. Don't you think so? It's the only check and balance on these people. They're in for life. They don't stand for election like we do, which is scary.
Now I have several questions about this (other than the fact the Constitution has its own checks and balances that Ms. Boxer seems to have forgotten).
First, does this 'esteemed' member of the senate realize that she can have her cake and eat it too? It is called a Constitutional Amendment, and the procedures have been in place for well over 200 years to do just that, when a Majority, or in this case a real SUPER Majority decides it is time.
Second, can anyone link to where she was decrying this in 1993/94 when the Democrats controlled the Presidency and both houses of Congress? I know she is stupid, I was just wondering if she is also a hypocrit.
Finally, except for the salary, does she not realize that the first sentence she just uttered applies to most congresspeople? She will deny to Judges, admittedly a job classification that actually does some work, the very rights she enjoys herself along with almost 500 of her collegues (Daschle found out you need more than just one Confirmation vote when you LIE to your constituents).
Is any one really proud of this self important buffoon, or is it just the fact that Californians are just too lazy to elect competant legislators?
And BTW, for the record, as AL Hastings found out, judges can be removed fairly easily.
