Taking it too far AGAIN

Seems that there is this college in North Carolina whose team name is the Braves.  And the NCAA does not like it.

Now I am one of the first to say that the 'Redskins' is comparable to saying 'Darkies' (and not because I hate the stupid team, which I do), and it is an affront to our native american brothers, but Braves?

If that was all it was, I am sure that some midly Politically Correct People would take exception and jump on the NCAA's bandwagon.

But then there is the rest of the Story.

UNC-Pembroke is situated on the Lumbee Tribes land, and was created so that Native Americans could get a college education!  Indeed, when the Student Body came up with the name, it was solely a Native American college!  And the Students wanted to be known as the Braves!

It only (relatively) recently (in 1953) went to accepting any students!

In all my reading of History and of the Native Americans, Braves has always signified an honorable and fierce warrior.  I find none of that to be derogatory, and indeed the very Native Americans that named their sports teams do not either.

Just some small minded pencil pushing mindless politically Correct idiots at the NCAA.

I am glad UNC-Pembroke told them to go shove it!
