Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.
Using Rumor instead of Peer Reviewed
Published on January 18, 2010 By Dr Guy In The Environment

The house of cards that is AGW is suffering another setback.  Already the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has airbrushed the infamous Mann Hokcey Stick from its latest report.  Today, the IPCC announced they are going to do the same with the statement that "Himalayan Glaciers may disappear by 2035".  And this time the error is a lot worse.

While the Mann Hockey Stick at least had some backing by people in the field (later shown to be bad science), the claim on the Himalayan Glaciers never did!  In fact, according to an analysis done by Climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon (By the way, there will still be glaciers in the Himalayas in 2035 ), the source of the "fact" pubished by the IPCC was traced to a typo!  From a non-peer reviewed source that the supposed author (of the original statement) repudiated years ago.

It seems that instead of relying on Peer reviewed work (not a guarantee of competance, but at least the illusion of it), the IPCC took the data from an article by the WWF (World Wildlife Federation, not World Wrestling Federation).  The statement had in turn been lifted from a report by the WGHG/ICSI (Working Group on Himalayn Glaciation/International Committee for Snow and Ice).  The problem is that data never appeared in the WGHG/ICSI Document!  Instead, the document talked about the reduction of non-artic glaciation from the current 500,000 km2 to 100,000 km2 by 2350!  Perhaps a discalculian editor pulled the number?

Whatever the reason for the transposition of figures, the IPCC never bothered to check the source of the outrageous statement it made (and continued to make until now).  And yet this is the same organization that Al Gore uses to state "the debate is over" and "the science is settled".  Clearly while they may no longer want to debate the issue (Al Gore has never debated his outrageous claims), the science is not settled and real scientists are continuing to debate the issue.

I've been reading through this off & on all afternoon.  Really interesting, especially the comments from a spectroscopy engineer from down under named Michael.

The thread even has its own version of Mumblefratz.

She is an amazingly insightful lady.  I read her site almost daily.  Check out the commentator PhilJourdan.  He was even given a kudo for being a 'first poster".  I gather there is some status associated with that.
