IN what I predicted 3 months ago (which I will not claim an y prognostication power for since it was obvious to most rational thinking people) following the mid term elections that put the democrats in power, the base of the left has decided that their "toadies" are not being toady enough.  Yep!  The loons on the left are now trashing the democrats for not basically doing what they promised, and instead playing politics.

For 6 years democrats have trashed republicans for everything from not balancing the budget to not spending enough.  And it was a turkey shoot as the republicans, trying to be all things to all people, forgot who got them the leadership in the first place, and 'broke' the bank.  Their one victory was in getting a tax cut through (which is in danger now they are no longer in power).  But in almost all else domestic, they failed miserably.  Retaining now (temporarily?) only the executive branch that has no power except foreign.  And in that they at least have been consistent, if not solomonic wise.

And that is where the base of the left is railing at the democrats to "do something and do it now".  They demand basically a coup d'etat and an usurpation of the executive powers by the legislative branch.  With few exceptions (e.g. Murtha), the democrats in power in congress are wise enough to know that cannot be done without bringing down the foundation of the government.  And so they are trying to be true to promises they could not keep, while laying within the rules the constitution set for them.  While most of them are purely swaying with public sentiment and have no basic positions that are not compromisable, they are realist that know you cant stage a coup d'etat and expect the fabric of government to go on like nothing happen.  In other words, they are playing the game.

But during their 12 years in the wilderness of the minority party, they sought every means to regain the power they had held and abused for 40 years.  And in so doing, they laid down with the loons and kooks on the extreme edge of their party.  Promising them sugar plums and fairies to keep them enraged at the wascally wepublicans, knowing that at the stroke of midnight, when they resumed power, they would take those loons for granted.  Their mistake was in expecting the loons to then go quietly into that good night.

The genie is out of the box, and it remains to be seen if now the monster the democrats created by embracing the monsters of their base can ever be tamed again.  I personally don't think they can without a lot of pain and suffering - something I don't think the democrat leadership is willing to go through.  So as I predicted back on November 9th, it is going to be fun watching the trolls and loons on the left eat their pound of flesh - not of republican meat, but of their own kind.

Pass the popcorn!  This is going to be a fun reality show to watch!  And we have at least 2 years to enjoy it.  More than that I cannot guarantee as I do not know if the democrats can survive their crackup of the kook base.
