Well, our new illustrious leaders have not even taken power yet, but they have managed to beat old Ted Matthews (Tim Kaine's) record for broken promises! This time taking -37 days to break not one, but 2 promises (at least one member has done 2). The ignoble record holder for breaking 2 promises is none other than Lt. Dan - aka Jim "Don't talk to me!" Webb. This record is tied by Nancy Pelosi, and soon to be met by others I am sure.
First we have Nancy Pelosi who reneged on her promise to Alcee Hastings on a committee spot. That in itself is probably good in the end since the only reason he is in congress and not jail is that the canary would not sing. And it is also why she is only second to Lt. Dan. Who decided that the promise of bipartisanship was not worth the joy of rudeness to the President.
Now comes the rest of the democrats, who besides promising to run a more ethical government (we wont count that one as broken yet since they actually have to have power to break it), has decided that the 9-11 commission recommendations that they "promised" to implement fully are, welllll, just not worthy of their word of honor. No, they will not implement the 9-11 recommendations, deciding instead to break a promise for a whole party over a month before they can even set the agenda!
We all know that politicians lie. That is the nature of the game. But the democrats seem to be outdoing themselves in who can break promises faster than the next guy. Even Bill Clinton waited 90 days before breaking his first promise (his word is another matter).
While the defeat of the democrats in 94, 2k, and 2k4 were met with wailing and gnashing of teeth, claims of fraud, and disenfranchisements by the losing party, the defeat of the republicans in 06 was met with dignity and conciliation by at least one party. The Republicans. The democrats still are yelling, and gnashing their teeth is a couple of close races they lost, but at least they are not doing it on a national scale. Yet.
So on November 8th, 2006 when conservatives awoke to a brand new world, many did not sit down and cry and cast aspersions (that was for the winning side to do). Instead they just breathed a deep sigh of relief that the election was over, and then smiled inwardly as they knew the grief that had been heaped (and continues to be heaped) upon them by the left would now be returned in kind. And so it has begun. A month earlier than expected. And the left continues their invectives and slurs, and seem not to be rejoicing in their victory, but intent on feeling miserable and making others feel that way as well.
Congrats democrats! One broken promise down, the rest to go!
Disclaimer: So that some democrats do not go off on generalizations, the use of the terms left and democrats does not mean all those left of center or that are registered democrats. However, instead of further qualifying all statements made herein, and making this piece totally unreadable, I will leave it to the individual to decide whether this shoe fits or not.
