Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Ok, I know that at the current time, women have a right to an abortion.  But apparently some people think that "right" should be made mandatory if it is their daughter, regardless of her age.

It appears that a woman, 19 years old (by law she can enter into contracts and has all the rights of an adult except drinking) was dating a boy that her parents did not approve of (that just described about half the parents in America I would guess).  She got pregnant.  So they kidnapped her to force an abortion.

They live in Maine, but were taking her to New York. Why?  They had to pass through several states to get there that all allow abortion (it is the Northeast after all), so why not just do it in Maine or New Hampshire or even Vermont?

The innunedo in the article is they had found a 'doctor' in New York that would do it, no questions asked.  But that will probably never be known, and I am sure the 'doctor' in New york will deny any complicity with this couple.

But I have several things to say to these 'parents'.

1. Forced abortion is not tough love.
2. Forcibly taking a 19 year old, regardless of her relation to you, is Kidnapping.
3. Trying to force your daughter to give up a man you think is a mistake will only drive her closer to him.

And 4. Your rights with your daughter ended when she turned 18.  Better get use to the idea that she has her own life now, and if you persist, it will not include you.

Oh my God...you've got to be kidding me. That's insanity...forcing someone to have an abortion, and KIDNAPPING them to do it...some people are very twisted in their logic. How does that play out?

I don't like her boyfriend. Oh, she's pregnant...let's see, I'll kidnap her. Now, let's take my DAUGHTER to a doctor to forcibly perform an abortion. I sure do love my daughter.

Hmm...that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

It does not make any sense to me, and I have 2 daughters (and no, I dont like their boyfriends either).

What a shame! These parents are quite appearantly not interested in the long term emotional impact their actions would have had on their daughter....

Or a relationship with her either.

And I don't think this Christmas is going to be a very close one, either...that is, if the parents aren't locked up for the next several years, which by all accounts they should be.

sounds like some serious sickness in the parents, treating their daughter like a peice of property.

Or even worse than sickness...makes me wonder about the father.....and his relationship with his daughter....

God,  I hope the judge throws the book at them,  and that they get the maximum time they can.

I cannot understand about the doctor, surely he / she must have known the girl was not happy about the abortion? I assume they will be charged too?

My god those parents! What a dreadful thing to do to your child.

I am willing to bet she will find it very hard to forgive them, and to get over the forced violation of her body and the death of her baby that she may have wanted to keep.

She will no doubt prevent her parents from having any contact with any future children she may have, for fear of what they may do to them at any point of their young lives.

I dont know about several, but at least a year.  They stopped being parents when they became criminals.

Boy MM, you can sure be succint!  And oh so right!  Kudos for hitting this nail on the head!

I would like to see some jail time, but more importantly, if they are truly repentant, a chance for a reconcilliation.  I know that is probably a pipe dream, but I guess I am a softie.

As for the Doctor, since they were thwarted, he has deniability.  As for the parents, I hope they repent so they can enjoy their grandchildren.  But that is not up to the lady.

I think they are being charged with kidnapping. I don't agree with the forced abortion or kidnapping but it seems that the daughter threw away her life, her college education for a man who is now in jail. So I think it was a little worse than we don't "like" her boyfriend.

She may or may not have thrown her life away, and the authorities have refused to say why he is in jail (it could be some unpaid parking tickets for all we know).  But we have 18 years to instill in them the values that we have.  Only 18.  Then they must make their own decisions.

Frankly, I dont know what she was thinking, or even if she is going back to school.  If she was my daughter, I would be very upset and sad about the decisions she is making.  But I would be more frustrated that I could NOT do anything about it.  I would not attempt to kidnap her and murder, yes, murder as she wants this baby, her baby.

I heard this story on the news yesterday. The parents are now facing possible Federal charges. I certainly can't understand what thought process lead not one but both parents to do this insane act.

They must really be a couple of loons.
