Most know that my wife is a paralegal. And I a network Jock. But I work downtown, and she in a safer climate, so that on occassion, she asks me to take things to the court house. Not a problem. I have been doing it for about 3 years now, and the US Marshalls (no none of them are Tommy Lee Jones) know me by sight now, and wave me through. I always leave my cell phones at the office as I know they are verbotten.
Today was a little different. It was an Adversarial filing (for the legal beavers, if you know what that is, and are welcome to explain to the rest of us). But there was a problem with it. It turns out the filing attorney did not fill out the paperwork correctly, as she was going in for surgery, and it had to be filed today due to some real estate issues (that much I understood). But as I stood there in the clerks office and they were trying to figure out what to do, and I was looking like a deer in the headlights, they decided to call the attorney (in surgery) and then my wife. It took them awhile to get her however (push 1, push 2, push 3 dance).
So the Clerk was talking to me (extremely nice and helpful once she realized I was clueless), and then noticed my hands. "how did you get those sores on your hands?" (twixt thumb and index finger). Before I could answer, she said "You were raking, right?"
Smart lady! Yea, we just had Ernesto come through and most around here have been raking (not a bad storm, but a lot of stuff from trees in the yard!). Yep I said. Before I could say another word, she blurted "I hate raking! It seems so useless.".
I like this lady!
Anyway, she finally got my wife, and they figured out what to do, and I left with a stamped copy. And a nice 15 minute visit with some very nice clerks of the court! And a very perceptive one as I figure (from a look at her hands) that her husband had done the raking too!
And before you ask, no, I dont use gloves! I am a stupid male after all! geez! You expected me to learn? HAhahahahaha
