Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.
If you Prick me, do I not bleed?
Published on August 24, 2006 By Dr Guy In Current Events

I have not been alive for total of the latest incarnation of Israel.  At least 2 on JU have.  One a highly respected member, and the other also.  Perhaps more of you.  I do not know.

But I do know one thing.  Israel was born of conflict, and they have held their own against overwhelming odds.  Why?  Why can a nation of a few million hold out against those odds?

We have many opinions.  But quite frankly, it is their will to survive!  Something that America has not lost, but is close to losing.  I doubt Israel ever will until there is no Israeli left to adhere to that principal.

And you know what?  They have allies in the strangest of places!  The latest is Germany that did not sell them some WWII used Uboats. But just announced today, sold them some Nuclear capable subs.  The subs are new, and unarmed.  For now.  But it does show a willingness of both the Germans, and more importantly, the Israelis to make a statement.  For a deal, and a sub are not built in a day.  It takes months!  At the very least. But it was announced today after the mad mullahs of Iran decided to once again thumb their nose at the UN (that is a common practice, that most sane people do anyway, it does not take an insane mullah to show us they are just paper tigers).

So now, that is a message to Iran (and Syria).  And since the world community has decided that Israel is not a 'real' nation, they are not leaving anything to chance (I think this was done long before Barak took over).  And I cheer them!  Yes, Cheer them!

for the world breathed a sigh of relief (some of dissatisfaction) when the old USSR dissolved into nation states.  FINALLY!  The world is safe from MAD!  But as long as evil exists, MAD will always be there.  But now it is not the USA and the USSR.  It is Israel, and the mad Mullahs.

It can be avoided!  Very easily as the cold war showed us.  LEAVE US IN PEACE.  That is what Israel is showing us.

And while I am not Jewish, and I am almost a decade short of their nation, I fully support them in this.  I know many will brand me some names not fit for print.  And they are just simpletons.  But the fact remains.  Israel will have the subs before Iran or any other mad Mullah has the bomb.

And since the UN is so anti Israel, they don't give a whit to what Kofi or Koffee says.  And you know what?  neither do I.

I don't savor the third nuclear explosion over a populate area.  I deplore it.  The ones that do savor it, are alive and well, and living in the Middle East.  After all, they are training their babies to be suicide bombers.  They care nothing for human life.

The came is afoot!  But Sherlock Holmes is already on the case.  And his opponent is not as smart as Moriarity.  not by a long shot.

Not a nice name to call them MM. I prefer pull-starts. (as in lawn mowers)

I enjoyed the article Doc, and the link to the source article as well. Thanks.

I would usually not tolerate the TH comments, but as you are one of the 2 that has been around, and care deeply for our friends over there, I will allow it.  As I will the other.  SHould he chose to comment.

But as to your comment, it is not really opinion now, is it?  They made a bold statement, and Germany, one of Saddams biggest backers, is backing them.  I would think that should give rational people cause to pause.  But I dont think they are dealing with rational people.  Not Hitlers per se.  More like Tojos.  And both will suffer the same fate.

The saddest part is that the UN is still totally clueless, and will remain so.  Kofi is a Jokee.

Pull Starts?  Now that I can get behind!  Thank you.  But MM is one of the 2 I mentioned and will allow him the leeway on this.  For the simple reason he has been fighting them far longer than either of us, and I would not correct the WWII vets from calling germans Krauts, or Japanese "nips".  WHen you are in a fight for your life, PC is the last thing you are worried about.

I am sorry doc, and I straighten it out.

I am becoming like them , they hate me because I am a JEW and I am starting to hate them right back.. not the MUSLIMS.. the ones that want me dead.

I tend to hate people who want me dead too. I dunno, maybe it's just me (and you), but I don't see anything wrong with that.

Do not appologize.  When you are fighting for your very existance, PC is out the window. I do not wish to be in your shoes, but I wish to be in your understanding.  And that is why I said I would allow it.  Existance is not a metaphysical question to be examined by University types.  I understand.  I wish you peace, and peace in your time.

I think it is a contagion.  And all sane people are catching it.  And in that, I am glad.

Quite frankly, the worst thing Israel did was obey the stupid cease fire.  I am not a Jew.  And never will be. But I know genocide when I see it.  And I am sorry the PM does not.

This is a weaker PM then the previous. If it were the previous the war would still be waging, if not already won with NO terms. However, due to mounting world and internal pressure the present PM found it prudent to accept yet another ceasefire in a long long line of useless ceasefires. There is no doubt that Hezbollah will not withdraw from the area. This blatant disregard for the terms of the ceasefire will slip by virtually unnoticed by the UN, however, should Israel sidestep the smallest item of the ceasefire and the UN will howl from the hilltops.

I have no illusions though. Hezbollah will use this time to dig themselves in further, stockpile new weapons supplied from Iran and Syria, probably even ready the stage for Qana III, and then, like clockwork, commit another unprovoked attack on Israel's north and then the war is right back on. This time the results will be devastating, not just for Lebanon, not just for Israel, but I'm afraid this time it will be the world.

if not already won with NO terms.

In that we are in total agreement.

I have no illusions though

The rest is going to stand the test of time.  And that is the best lead in line.  I do not understand Ehud Barrak(sp), but it is apparent that he was never "elected".  Kind of like Pelosi running the US goverment.  She will find herself in an untenable position, and then wonder why.

I hope we do not become Israel.

The people of the U.S. haven't lost their will to survive as a nation, there are just too many Americans who don't take any threat to our survival seriously.  The chant "All We Are Asking, Is Give Peace a Chance" has raised the idea that "If We Take the Blame for Everything, Maybe They'll Respect Us".

The problem is, the people who are a threat to our national survival (foreign and domestic) don't think in terms of "we won't kill you if we respect you"... they think in terms of "If you aren't one of us, you don't deserve to live"...

I am no great fan of diplomacy... which is to say, I am a great fan of talking things out in a rational manner, but modern day diplomacy isn't about that... it's about "how much of my integrity do I have to give up to get you to give up yours".

Well, when the threat to our survival starts from the standpoint of not recognizing any integrity in us, how can giving up more do any good?

When we call an exterminator, we don't ask them to negotiate or even forceably remove the vermin... we pay the technician to kill the life forms that we deem unworthy of existing... since we are so willing to see rats and ants the way we do, why do so many have so much trouble believing that there are people out there who see us as the vermin?

Great article Dr. Guy!!!

I think that is a very insightful statement.  And I agree.  The 21st century has lost the art of diplomacy.

Hardly. Whilst nation-states like the US and Israel have refused diplomatic steps on certain high-profile issues it's still influential elsewhere in the world. Hardly a border skirmish takes place without the immediate deployment of a UN delegate and a bevy of high-ranking embassy staffers from any country with half an interest. You need only look at the effect of diplomacy in East Timor, the Solomons, the Singaporean-Malaysian water disagreements or even just the general way that border disputes don't tend to get violent to see how immensely important diplomacy is in the 21st century.

If anything I think this century will see an increase in diplomacy purely because it's so useful. It's much cheaper to send a mission of diplomats than to send in the marines and it's generally easier to spin, both domestically and abroad.

You confuse negotiation with Diplomacy.  While similar, they are not the same.

According to who? Diplomacy is nothing more or less than a ritualised form of negotiation, designed in such a way as to achieve results without obvious insult to either party.

It's not half so sinister as you would make it seem.
