A teacher in Kentucky, Dan Holden, decided that show and tell was better than a book. And often time it is. Touching, seeing, feeling an issue is far better to a child than reading a dull boring text book on it.
But there is a difference between showing a dead frog, and burning the school down! This is not some young idealic huffed out teacher. This guy has been teaching for 27 years! And he decides to burn not one, but 2 flags - IN A CLASS ROOM??????
Perhaps he is getting senile. Last I checked, when I was in school, the teacher could take us outside on special occassions, and although Kentucky gets lots of snow, I dont think that was the case this past friday!
My only conclusion is that he was just plain not thinking. The worst thing that could have happened did not. And for that I am glad. But next time he decides to do a show and tell, take a field trip!
And the ACLuelessU? There response was they would rather see the kiddies fry than for any ones rights to be trampled! Here is the Clueless quote:
"if a school is masking their objections to flag burning under the guise of safety, it raises questions about freedom of speech and academic freedom,"
No, stupid! Ir raises questions about the teachers judgement, but the safety of the students, as they have so often sued over, is the FIRST priority! Dont you just love hypocrites?
