Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Mason wrote an article where a drunk decided he was some hooker and was bound and determined to break into his room and get him some nookie.  And it reminded me of my episode with drunks, hotels, and one that got booted off the State List of recommended ones (I would hope).

August 1993.  I remember it.  I spent exactly 1 day at home.  The rest of the time I was traveling the state, or on vacation.  I left on August 1st (a Sunday) and headed for far SW Virginia.  2 weeks later, after spending those 2 weeks on the road, we headed at about 5pm from Woodstock (Virginia!  Not NY!) to Fredericksburg Va.  Over the Blue Ridge, so it was not JUST a 70 mile trip, it was nearer 150 over switchbacks.  Up and down.

There were 3 of us.  And we had been on the road for the whole time, so we were tired.  We checked into the hotel, and then ate at their restaurant.  We were flat out tired, and after this training session we would be heading home, me for a week of vacation (before doing Southside and Tidewater upon my return) and them to just a respite from traveling.

I hit the bed early.  I was dog tired.  At 2am, I was awakened by a loud noise that I thought was coming from the next room. (not my friends, we did not have adjoining rooms).  Then the phone started ringing.  I answered it and the voice on the other end DEMANDED to know if I was watching TV and why it was so loud?  I told him it was not my room, but the one next door, and they were fighting or something as there was a racket coming from there!

No, he proclaimed!  That was one of them banging on my door to turn down the TV! (it was off).  I told him the TV was off, and I dont know where the noise was coming from, but I was tired and wanted sleep!

The next morning, I was Red Hot!  I marched up to the check out desk to DEMAND who woke me at 2am!  he said "I did!  We got a complaint that the TV was too loud".  I told him, Look you stuipid idiot (PGiasized), your stupid goon could have stuck his ear to the door to realize there was no sound coming from my room except Zzzzzs, and that the clown next door was dead drunk!  Why did you not at least have the courtesy to respect the rights of your guests, instead of taking the word of a drunk?

he sheepishly grinned and said "Yea, the other guy was tipsy".

Fine I said. I am filing a complaint with your home office and the State DGS.  I hope you enjoy your job as it wont last much longer! And stormed out.  My friends looking on, and applauding (that was the first they had heard of it).

I did what I threatened. I doubt that stupid night manager went any further with that chain.  And while it may not have gotten them kicked off the state list (It is a long process and who knows what the idiots at DGS think), it does mean a lot of questions for the Hotel and the Hotel's parent.

I hope that guys is flipping burgers.  He is too stupid to be a manager.

And yea, after 13 years, it still pisses me off.

Awesome.  The only way, imho,  is to carry through on a promise, or a threat,  ( unless the threat promises bodily harm!! )  it's the only way to get their attention.

I had an experience,  not of the same setting,  however I carried out my promise to do what it took, through the legal system, to make sure the person involved gets what they have coming to em!

you know what I call it?  Righteous indignation!  When you know you are right and the cretin does not back down! I love those fights!

I doubt this guy went much further.  After all, he may not have lost his job this time, but showed real stupidity.  Holiday Inn does not like that!

Most of the large chains take guest complaints pretty seriously so I'm sure he was at least called onto the carpet about it.

I love that.  Righteous indignation.  I think that's what the familie's of murder victims feel.  Along with grief, rage, and frustration.

I truly don't like to go to war Doc,  I will though for what I believe in,  like in my post "RANT RANT RANT~  granted it could have been written better so as to further explain ALL the things that happened that day,  however I followed through on the issue with the necessry parties and action was taken.  I don't think I felt elated at being in a position where I HAD to do something,  however it was a safety issue.

I understand.  I dont either when it is just petty stuff.  I really try to avoid it.  This instance was different.  Others are just sniping.  And I dont like it either.

I like it when it is clear cut.  Not a He Said She Said,  Then it is just petty. Not the same.

Still, one has to stand at times I guess.  If only to let the Bin Ladens know that we will not cave.

Me too. Sometimes you just have to stand up for what you believe in. I don't blame you Doc, I guess if he had even sounded sorry or made amends it wouldn't have been so bad, but he didn't.

If he had been appologetic, it would have defused all of my anger.  But I guess it was for the best anyway.  With his attitude, he does not belong in a customer service industry.
