Lesley Gore
"It's My Party"

Season 1
"The Gift"

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone
But Judy left the same time
Why was he holding her hand
When he's supposed to be mine

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Then all my records keep dancing all night
But leave me alone for a while
'Til Johnny's dancing with me
I've got no reason to smile

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you

Judy and Johnny just walked thru the door
Like a queen with her king
Oh what a birthday surprise
Judy's wearing his ring

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to
You would cry too if it happened to you
Oh-oh-oh It's my party and I'll cry if I want to
Cry if I want to, cry if I want to.....

Ok, so how many do not know this song.  Those under 40 need not answer if you dont want to.

But the little known fact is that this song was an accidental career starter!  Yep!  Leslie Gore recorded it and figured that was that!  But 6 days later, she heard it on the radio.  4 weeks later, it was #1. And the rest they say is history.

Not bad for an accidental Career starter. I guess you can cry if you want to.

I'm under 40 and I've heard that song.

Did you hear her follow up?

But glad the oldies are still being listened to.

When this song came out,  I beonged to a skating club and we came all the way to St. Louis Park to skate at Roller Gardens,  and I was unhappy cause they had live music instead of records!!

Most of us "girls" at the time felt we could sing this song with good reason,

I've always loved this song.

And it's funny watching my daughter prance around the living room while singing along (word perfect and just a whisker off note perfect). She's a trip sometimes.

I didn't know the history of it, though.

And definitely fall under the < 40 title.

i'm bored, so i'm posting here again...it was "johnny's turn to cry" or something like that, right? I always thought that "leader of the pack" would have made a better sequel, though...LOOKOUT LOOKOUT LOOKOUT!

Your parents must be proud.  We do enjoy it when our chidlren like our music (my youngest son is really into the Doors!  One of my favorites).

No wonder you are so good at trivia.  Did you put it on your iPod (21st century lingo there)

Judy's Turn to Cry.  Cause Johnny's come back to me.

I find it encouraging to see that the oldies have a new following.  I doubt I can remember a single song my mother bopped to in the 40s and early 50s.  She hated R&R.

Close.  And Yes, Leader of the Pack is probably her best.

Ms. Gore's been here in Laughlin fairly recently -- and frankly it surprised me she's still doing tour dates. The power of a hit song!

Old Howie Mandel Joke (told in a child's voice):

My mommy, she tried to put me on my potty, but every time she'd put me on my potty I'd start to cry. Then she'd put my on my potty and I'd start to cry. And she said, "Why do you always cry when I put you on your potty?!" And I said, "It's my potty and I'll cry if I want to."

(Feel free to groan.)

I like that song. Cames in handy at the right moments in my younger days.(so says this over forty year young!)

I also love Leader of the Pack and still liking them both even now!
