Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Sarah Stoekl has been reviewing movies for some time now, and I do enjoy her reviews.  I agree with her more than not (and my son less than not).  I think she does a very good job.  But I have not seen her review Ray.  If she has, I do appologize and beg her forgiveness.

I saw Ray this week.  And I was very moved!  I grew up with Ray Charles Robinson, and yet I knew so little about him (other than his music which I always loved).  Th emovies, according to his children, is very accurate.  And in that, it was very sad.  It is about a man who suffered the worst.  From his own hand.  Yet managed to climb out of it and still be the greatest Rhythm and Blues (and one of the top 5 Pop singers) of all time.

I saw it this week, and it humbled me.  But I am writing it now as my son is watching it and learning.  He actually knew more than I did before viewing the movie.

But we will never listen to another Ray Charles song without a deeper understanding of one of the greatest men to ever entertain us.

Thank you Ray Charles Robinson.  I wish I had met you to thank you for your music before you went to play with Elvis for God.

Sorry you had missed this movie before now as it was truly excellent. It's not an easy film to get through because of the tragedy in Ray Charles' life, but it was incredibly well done.

If you have time for another autobiographical style film and haven't seen it, Walk The Line is also highly recommended. { big thumbs up! }

Excellent review on your part!  Yes, it is incredibly (I wish I had used that term) well done.

ANd I have seen Walk The Line, and as I have been a Johnny Cash fan since pre-puberty, I can say that is incredibly well done as well!

But in a way, I feel sorry for my sons.  They admire our heros, and listen to the music. Yet the ones that rate the most are the ones we grew up with not them.

A movie about Kurt Cobain? Who would care?

Neat article!  I too love his music.

I have yet to see the movie,  would almost rather read about him first I think.

I love non-fiction that can also move you. Both Walk the Line and Ray are 2 such movies.  And eye openers for those of us who do not pry into the lives of our favorite musicians, just enjoy the God Given talent they have.

As always, I am sure his biography is better.  But Jamie Foxx did an outstanding job as Ray.  He brought the character back to life.

I saw Ray a few months ago and was in awe of Jamie Foxx's portrayal - he was amazing.

I just saw Walk the Line last week and was almost equally impressed with Joaquin Phoenix. And I had forgotten how a such small group of incredibly talented kids who toured together in the late 1950's ended up influencing popular culture in so many ways and to such an extent - Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, June Carter, Waylon Jennings - even after "the music died." It was a little spooky how they all got started together.

That was a part of the times.  Even I could go to concerts without spending a fortune back in my days.  Now they are just glitz fests that cost a months rent to see a bunch of prima donnas that really dont care about their fans.
