Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

A student at a school in Florida kicked a teacher's aide in the shins.  And for that she got jail time (in a juvenile jail - at least they did not put her in with the child molestors) and is being charged with battery and forced to take a counseling program.

Ok, this is clearly a case of battery on an authority figure, so why is it under the heading of Zero Tolerance?

For 2 reasons.  She is only 6 years old, and she is a special ed child!  And for that she is arrested?  And forced to undergo counseling?  What is the counseling going to be about?  I mean she is only 6 years old! "Did the doctor spank you when you were born?"

My children are not that old, but there use to be something called a timeout corner.  And while one should not be excusing violent nature in children, we should be able to understand that a 6 year old special ed child does not have the malice aforethought intention of say a 14 year old or even a 10 year old.  But this school district decided to teach her a lesson!  Yea, what a lesson!  Now the child will probably hate school for the rest of her life.  Nice way to teach, hey school administrators?

God save the children, because for damn sure the schools are not doing anything to help them.

I didn't see or hear about this one before. It's sometimes difficult to understand the way these people think. It's like they have forgotten what common sense is all about and what they should really be doing to help the students in their care.

That is the problem with Zero Tolerance.  Common sense never enters into it.  Unfortunately.

Why not put her where she can learn violent behavior from those better at it that she.

If the administrators were thinking, I would not have put that excuse past them.
