As predicted, the vampires started calling me last week. The gave me the weekend to donate, but I was busy that weekend. So yesterday, I finally broke down and went to donate. I was a little leery after my previous donation when I almost passed out, but knew that unless I contracted AIDS, they would not stop calling.
So I go for the mini-physical, and all seemed to be OK. Then into the chair to donate. Just as they were sticking the needle into my arm, my wife called. She lost the CD I had burned her, and can I run another one out to her? Up, not right now, the vampires got me (the Phlebotomist laughed at that). I drain fast, it does not usually take more than 5 minutes. If it does, it means they blew out the vein. That has happened a couple of times, and usually right after the person says "I never miss". I have good veins so they are hard to miss, but if they give me that line, I know to tell them back away and get someone else!
After I gave, I had to drive home as the next blood drive at work is not for another 7 weeks. Yes, I was nervous. I burned the CD, ran it out to my wife in rush hour. So far so good. Came home and I am building a PC for a family, so I was trying to find a good CD drive (their's was one of those sound blaster combos that Windows 98 does not recognize), and finally got the install going around 9am.
And went to bed! And slept like a log! I woke up later than usual this morning, about 5:30. But did I feel rested! And no boop! Guess it was the Jet lag. I am glad that was what it was the last time. I would hate to start passing out each time I gave blood, as while the ladies (and some men) are very nice, they would still call me every 8 weeks.
Oh, and I also ate some whole wheat pasta with lots of Garlic for dinner! Just in case the vampires wanted more of my blood.
