Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Kudos to a caller on Rush Limbaugh today.  Here's the setup:

Congress has stated we must offer amnesty for the illegal immigrants as they are doing jobs no American wants to do.  Part of the Amnesty is a fine, but - Learning English and becoming citizens in 5 years are the key parts.  With me so far?

Ok, so if all these illegals then become legal Americans, they will not want to do those jobs they are doing now!  So in 5 years what happens?  We have to import another 10-12 million illegals to do the jobs that our newest citizens do not want to do!  A vicious cycle! And just another reason that no legislation is better than bad legislation.

Brilliant. Like I said, nothing but fixing small details rather than going after the main problem. These people always have the tendencies of trying to fix the effects of the cause yet completely ignore the cause and therefor spend the rest of their lives and ours, fixing the effects.

The worst part is, it will accomplish NOTHING!  it is worse than doing nothing as it will just open the borders wider.

I agree. I know many farmers where I grew up who struggle to get enough help during harvest time. A time which was usually over saturated by migrant workers from Mexico who come to make money for their families. I'll guarantee you won't get as much work out of the prisoners than you do from someone who is in 'survival' mode trying to provide for his family. JMT.

My other thought would be this. If we give them citizenship doesn't that totally degrade the respect of being a citizen?

That opens up a whole nother can of worms.  But yes, it would degrate it for the ones who have struggled to obtain it legally with all the trials and tribulations they were forced through.  The fine just covers the cost they have already paid, so is not a fine, but a fee.

The plain facts are, not one elected official gives a crap about illegal immigration. The sad fact is, officials from both sides of the aisle are falling over themselves trying to appease the growing Latino vote by selling out to illegal aliens.

We see it in other arenas too, "if (blank) will vote for us, we don't care what laws they break".. to include those who vote illegally.

Bottom line: They would gladly let child molestors run amok in an elementary school if they thought it would get them votes.

Extreme analogy, but the point is taken.  And you are right.  No one in Washington is thinking rationally now.  Just being vote whores.
