Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

In what can only be described as a satire of putrid hate, the loons on the far left have gone off the deepend again.  As some may know, Dick Cheney took advantage of the elimination of the charity ceiling that congress passed in the wake of Katrina.  Prior to last fall, you were limited to deducting 50% of your income in charitable donations.  But since the ceiling was removed, you could bet the farm and donate as much as you wanted.

Dick Cheney did.  he donated 77% of his income to charity.  What a great guy, right?  Or at least a noble deed, right?  hardly!  Look at what some of the loony loopy luddite left had to say about Dick Cheney's generosity:

Why is this man not in jail?

How does this guy sleep at night? This administration makes me sick to my stomach. They are sooooo corrupt.

This administration has no shame.
They are "do as I say, not as I do" people

REPREHENSIBLE, totally devoid of any moral values, ...a true, dyed-in-the-wool Robber Baron.

We need a perp-walk, and we need it now.

I wonder how much each of these twerps donated last year.  I bet is was about a buck 50 each.

I'd rathar have this than listen to the liberal media demand I donate more and more money to Katrina, while they consider thier presence donation enough.

hey not to change the subject too much or anything....but going along with PC and liberal thought here.... my son just called from New Orleans saying it's very obvious there are many more blacks walking the streets the last few days. Come to find out...Jesse Jackson bussed in a bunch of his buddies just in time for the elections. Guess who won with like 38% of the vote? How come nobody's talking about this?

So we should expect you to be posting from the federal pen soon?

I didn't even know the law changed but then why would I? I don't do our taxes, too many deductions and business stuff my husband has to do it.

It probably affected about 2% of the people.  But affested much more in donations, right?

Sort of like "The Shawshank Redemption"?

Your link is misleading since the comments are not directly related to charity donations. The irony here is that Cheney got religion and took the road of the New Deal when Roosevelt's 90+% tax margin forced the rich boys to donate tons to charity.

You earn $1m. You pay $300k in taxes

how many people who earn $1 million or anything close to it are subject to withholding or even required to make quarterly payments based on estimated earnings?

more accurately, you earn $1 million, you pay someone to work it out so you're able to keep all your money until tax time--and then pay only what you can't avoid after employing every means to avoid doing so.

Is anyone really surprised that the administration's opponents are making an issue now of what they knew 5 years ago was going to happen "irrevocably"? Typical that the they only use it to score (not-so) subtle points about how well Halliburton is doing (on that, just who else is capapble of competing with them?) in their unrelenting effort to tar Cheney. Something happens over which he has no current control (that was an irrevocable trust he set up, voluntarily) and he gets his nuts roasted for "being rich" & "profiting" from the war - this kind of stuff just makes me sick. It's OK for Baker to be cynical about it, but the guy severs his ties as effectively as anyone can & gives it all to charity, only to face these lame charges of "having ongoing ties" to Halliburton. What a crock.

Since when is that a "bad" thing, steven? He does something that you liberal types should be praising (would you have accepted anything less?) and what good does it do him? Nada.

Ha ha nothing. You seem to forget "before" you get that money, taxes MUST be paid on the sum. If you don't understand that just take a look at your paycheck. See where the government took "their" share? And that's before you file your taxes. There's no getting around that. Uncle Sam takes his bite off the top.

And then you file your taxes and you get the money back if you have enough deductions. I'm really not understanding your point.

But I will add, that not everyone pays Uncle Sam first. If you are self-employeed, you can pay quarterly, or just file at the end of the year depending on your salary for the previous year.

Also, if you declare a huge number of deductions on your W4, you don't actually pay your taxes upfront either.

So, yeah, Uncle Sam isn't always taking his bit off the top.
