Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Most of the people on JU that partake of the political forum have very strong views and express them from their side of the political spectrum.  And I appreciate that.  There is no mistaking when you read an article, the slant of it (once you have been around for awhile).  Similarly, if you go to Moveon.org or RushLimbaugh.com, you know what you are getting.  Neither pretends to be a news outlet, all are slanted to the left or right.  If you want the unbiased news, go to a mainstream media site!

Oh that we could tho.  For as most know, and many will acknowledge, it is hard to even find news on their sites these days.  All you get is a slanted article written to make a point.  Do they always lie?  No, except for some like CBS and the NY Times, most have at least that much integrity.  So how do they slant the news?

There are many ways to slant a story.  One is to load the opposition's side up with pejorative descriptors and paint your side as standing in the middle of the stream.  That is a very popular one and one that is practiced regularly by members of the Biased MSM.

Then there is the sin of Omission.  Instead of telling "The" story, you only tell part of the story.  And you frame it so that it looks like you are reporting the one story, when the truth is vastly different.  Such is the story of the Peace protest on September 24, 2005.  As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.  One picture may be worth a thousand words, but it is useless when it is used to push a point and not report the story.

One thing I have noticed is how two different newspapers can take the same wire article and put their own slanted headline on it and it completely changes the way you read the story. I really don't know that there is anywhere to get a completely unbiased report. Here is a website to check out.

Excellent thought provoking post. Most want to be massaged by the news to reinforce their own beliefs and preferences. The manipulations of photographs are the most efficient vehicles to deliver impressions supporting the “slant” of an event one way or another. Thank you Dr.

Great article. This 'zombietime' character obviously has no agenda whatsoever. Hur hur hur. Is it really 'the' story you crave, or just the story according to YOUR ideology, rather than somebody else's?

When I was actively involved in a lot of the events that were being covered in the "news" we used to watch and wonder what situation they were covering.

We saw the reporter in the parking lot, street, front yard of the destroyed home (or whatever) and feel a lot like Garth in the Studio Set of Wayne's basement...

"Does this seem weird to anybody else? I mean, we're looking down on the reporter talking about the disaster... only that doesn't sound like the disaster scene we've been in the last few weeks. Isn't that weird?

Everyone: (nodding in agreement) Yeah, that's weird."

The real fun came later, when we watched the "news" all nice and packaged for human consumption...

I am sure he does.  But even people with agendas can expose shoddy reporting.  He does not claim to be a 'news' source.  Neither do I.  But that does not diminish the story or the hatchet job that the Chronicle did on the news.
