Debate, and discuss, just dont Bore me.

Every since Gov. Mark Warner spoiled the Mainstream Media's death watch party, they have been getting more goulish waiting for the winner of the Death Penalty Lottery - the 1000 person to be put to death.

For weeks leading up to the planned November 30th execution of Robin Lovitt, the media did not really play up the convicted killere, but rather opined how the person to so win the lottery would go down in history! (does anyone remember the 100th convict put to death since 1976?).

So just a day after spoiling the party by not executing Robin Lovitt, now the Mainstream Media's attention has switched to our neighbors to the south, North Carolina and Kenneth Lee Boyd (no relation to Lee Boyd Malvo).  He is scheduled to die in about 12 hours.

While I am against the death penalty for personal reasons, I am not one to stand outside the prison on a death watch.  Nor am I one to  condemn those who support the death penalty as it is the law of the land and one we will live with until a majority of our citizens decide to change that law.

But I am highly offended by this ghoulish display by the mainstream media in what is by any rights a very somber act that should at least have some dignity for process!  Instead, they dont care if the accused is a beast, animal, or jealous lover.  They just want their pound of flesh and the asterisk in the history books.

And it is revolting.

25th and 50th wedding anniversary

Poldark Maximus never considered his XXth wedding anniversay on par with the 1000th hanging ... until today. Useful comment on the conventions of modern life. He actually bought a XXth Anniversary card the other day for $3.00. He didn't see any cards for "Happy 1000th Hanging" but then he was in a manistream card store.

Poldark Maximus suspects that most of the MSM go home, put on their blogging hats, let it rip for real, and pray for the day when the MSM dies in the ditch via an ugly and horrible death of its own.

You are amusing, even if I cannot take you seriously.

which is why i was alluding to ad seg. there is no such thing outside of the institution.

Oh, I dont know about that!

yeah sorta like the way poldark maximus (as well as those who don't feel the need to pretend they're some sorta institution) celebrate ridiculous events like their 21st birthday...or their 25th and 50th wedding anniversary. the great and powerful oz thinks the same thing btw

I celebrate them all.  So why did they not celebrate the 999 the same way?

celebrate the 999

you're the one characterizing it as a celebration. more correctly it's sorta like being appalled by watching an unending parade of cars run off the road and over a cliff due to a badly designed highway. maybe if enough people finally realize just how many have already disappeared over the edge, a new road can be built.

the last journalist capable of stopping that kinda thing can no longer find a proper phonebooth in which to change.

And you want to deny it was not? Ok, what term would you use? No one even knew there was 999 until Warner spoiled their celebration of the 1000.

how many executions has warner stopped?

each time i've reread the linked article...and the article about warner's intervention to which it provided a link...i've become more convinced of the following:

a. the cnn article to which you linked can hardly be called a celebration of anything. yes, it makes mention of the fact that boyd was next in line to be the 1000th person executed since 1976. it quotes boyd as saying he doesn't want to be remembered for that. it's hardly celebratory in any reasonable application of the term.

b. there are at least two parties who seem to be deriving some benefit by exploiting the fact of this milestone. one of them may be warner.

c. if you'd were really outraged by the issue and you'd searched even a lil more, i'm sure you coulda found dozens of more appropriate targets. since you didn't, you'll excuse me for wondering if that was ever your intention. absent an agenda, i can see no reason why you locked on to cnn. perhaps you can take a few minutes to demonstrate the major revisions you woulda made if you'd suddenly been granted complete editorial control.
